Batman Year One The Animated Movie

We get to see Batman move, like he's supposed to. The way he never has in any of the live-action incarnations. That scene where he's fending off Brenden and the rest of his SWAT crew in the abandoned building is a wonder to watch.

Agreed. It was, by far, my favorite scene.

I can agree with that. Batman was a wonder to watch in action. I wish the voice could've been as good as well.

Here's another clip officially released of Batman: Year One:

Great clip. Hopefully my copy arrives tomorrow. I'm dying to see this movie in it's entirety.

Well after being banned for a week and watching the movie twice, I can say the animation is quite nice. Cranston although overrated, brings his best. McKenzie is underrated, not great, but definitely underrated I think. His Bruce Wayne persona is very snobby and ****ish, which is convincing enough. I enjoyed how he delivered the line " I have to wait. I have to wait" in his private training session in the snow, it conveys frustration which is what I always got from the panel in the comic. The graves scene is good too. " 18 years, and the ache is still fresh" Not from the comic, but a nice addition. He's raving mad. I agree with the fact the way Batman moves in this movie is quite well executed. At times, McKenzie sounds like Terry McGuiness, might be the only one who noticed. I give the movie a 7.5

I finally got my copy today. I really enjoyed it. The animation is terrific. The story follows the comic book to a tee. Can't fault it. The voice acting is a mixed bag. Cranston is by far the best performer. McKenzie is ok. Sometimes he sounded good, sometimes he sounded off and a bit robotic. Dushku and Sackhoff don't get a lot of dialogue, especially Sackhoff. But then that's just the way their characters are in the comic and it doesn't allow them much time to shine or impress.

Overall I give it a 7/10.

Seems like a lot of are giving the film about the same score. Surprisingly I actually enjoyed it more when I watched it again the other day.

Yeah. I haven't seen the film yet and I'm still excited to do so. But I'll go in not expecting another "Mask of the Phantasm", "Return of the Joker" or "Under the Red Hood" I suppose.

I'm watching it again on Wednesday with a friend who's also a comic book nerd. I hope I like it even more on the second viewing, not that I didn't enjoy it a lot on my first one.

But it has not topped UTRH or MOTP for me.

By the way, anyone got the hardware to dub Batman's voice with Conroy's. That would be sweet.

Well I imagine it's possible. And I gather there must be someone around here able to that. I've got the imagination to think about it and suggest it, but I don't have the talent nor the hardware to make it possible.

It's impossible. Either you'd have to have an extremely advanced digital voice changer or you'd have to collect pieces of Conroy's lines from the Animated Series & put them together. That approach would be terrible because of background music and the tone to each word would sound completely different than the next.

I might try to play with his voice in Virtual DJ just for fun later on. If I like it then I might upload something to my YouTube.

Although this movie was very short it was decent. I actually love the animation, and the way the did it. I much prefer the look of this to UTRH. The bd looks great.

Why would you want to mess it up like that? Conroy is great but his voice is better for a older Batman now, not a 25 year old.

I am acquiring this as I type. DC's Animated Films are usually of pretty good quality.

Ben Mackenzie just didn't do it for me. Dushku and Cranston were good though. The pacing made it feel like a long short film.

Wow Abaddon, I haven't seen you in a looooooong time.

For ****s and giggles. But it's not too far fetched, Conroy did play a younger Bruce Wayne/Batman in Gotham Knight.

Have to say I absolutely loved this movie. I'll admit at first Bens voice of Bruce was slightly awkward but it grew on me as the film went on. Its like if Adam West decided to play the character serious.

The animation, the character models, the backgrounds really helped bring the comic to life and its shocking how many direct quotes are in this film. I really can't wait to watch it again and while it may not be MOTP or UTRH its right up there.

Only real complaint was when the bat flies into the window and he doesn't deliver the line "I will become a bat".

8.5/10

Here's my review:

Batman Year One is the most accurate comic book film to ever be made as it is a film that hits all the right notes, missing very few beats from its original source material. Ben Mackenzie's Batman is very well done given the source material. The rest of the voice cast shines through particularly well also. The plot is lifted directly from the 4 issue comic arc and the animation is the best adaptation from an artists work we have seen yet. The animation and the overall production design so realistically comes off the page that it is almost like viewing a motion comic. My only complaint is that it runs just over an hour. For the sake of entertainment value, I wouldn't have minded if they added their own subplots to give us a longer film.

9.5 out of 10 (loses .5 for length)

The Best animated comic book material since Max Fleischer's Superman

Anyone else caught off-guard by the f-bomb dropped during Batman's narration after he took out the thugs on the fire escape?

the film was ok IMO, I've seen better, I liked how GPD was so corrupt! I'm kind of pissed that wanting to see Cat Woman in a animated film that's all we got of her!!! What was the point of her being in the film!? I loved the 12 min short, they should really consider doing a animted film with just her...

I think I know what line you mean, but I heard it as 'lucky amateur'.
