I dont' understand why Hollywood can't remake bad movies and make them good.
stigma. If Hollywood makes a ****ty movie, and audiences and critics hate it and it bombs, if they remake it too soon, even if it's oscar worthy, people would still rememer how awful the last incarnation was.
Plus, in Hollywood, oftentimes there's no concern about what are "good" and "bad" movies, just what movies are profitable and what aren't. If a movie comes out and it's profitable, it's a safe assumption that audiences would be interested in other movies like it. If a movie comes out and bombs big time, it's also a safe assumption that audiences WOULD NOT be interested in a similar movie, even if it is "good".
Take for instance pirate movies: they used to be a pretty regular type of film, there were dozens over the decades. But when Cutthroat Island came out in 1995, it bombed BIG TIME ($92 million dollar budget, only grossed $10 million dollars). This sent a clear message to hollywood that audiences were not interested in pirate movies. It took almost 10 years, until 2003's PotC, before someone would take another shot at the genre, and by then, audiences WERE interested in a pirate movie, and it paid off big time.
