Battleborn : Closed Testing Lessons & Exclusive PS4 Character

Posted Dec 05, 2015

UPDATE: During today's PlayStation Experience, the Battleborn team announced that PlayStation 4 players will have access to an additional,
exclusive character named Toby, a mech penguin. Toby will debut for PS4 players when the open beta test gets underway at a later date.
[YT]omGzuDwY168[/YT]
The Battleborn site has been updated with a new in-house interview with Producer Chris Brock, Creative Director Randy Varnell and Lead Programmer Jimmy Sieben in which the discussion centers around the lessons the team took away from the recently completed Closed Technical Tests. Questions range from stress testing server, character adjustments, gear drop frequency, what players can expect during open beta and more.
Now that the Closed Technical Test is done, we’ve got eyes on the Open Beta coming up. What kind of changes can we expect for that – and the final game?
Randy Varnell: Many! With the characters, we will continue to analyze data and make balance changes to characters. We actually recorded all of the Helix choices too, and will be taking a deep look at the augmentations which were less chosen, and see if we can make them more interesting choices.
Gear will be getting some additional tweaks, especially in regards to the activation costs and the way in which they stack. That should help gear to be more useful and more balanceable, as well.
Finally, the Meltdown map, Paradise, is getting some tweaks to make the mode a little less “snowball-y.” We watched and agreed with the community that it was too easy for a good team to take advantage of early success, and wanted to give more of a chance for later game comeback. We’ll have more details on this!”

Battleborn introduces new heroes Attikus and Galilea

A pair of "up-close-and-personal brawlers."

Battleborn_02-03-16.jpg

2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced two new playable heroes in its upcoming first-person hero shooter Battleborn.

Attikus and Galilea are “up-close-and-personal brawlers” who rely on bio-technology and dark energy, as well as fisticuffs and swords to strike down their opponents. Here are some details:
Attikus is a slave, laborer, and warrior, who has been shoved into the deepest of mines and kept down. But thanks to an experimental biotech harness, this already-imposing brute was given the one thing no one expected: Intelligence. And the only thing more dangerous than a huge, imposing beast with an axe to grind against his oppressors…is a smart imposing beast with an axe to grind against his oppressors.

Galilea, on the other hand, was once a promising undercover agent. But when her sabotage mission went wrong and she was mortally wounded, it was the very technology she sought to destroy that ultimately saved her life. Now unstable, immortal, and reeking of life-draining dark energy, Galilea is at war with herself and her new powers as she hopes to find a new purpose with the Battleborn and their fight to save the last star in the universe.
Battleborn is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 23.
Further details about each character are available at the PlayStation Blog. Watch Attikus and Galilea’s introduction trailers below. View a set of screenshots at the gallery.

Battleborn introduces new heroes Shayne and Aurox, Kelvin, and Whiskey Foxtrot

2K Games reveals three more playable characters.

Battleborn_02-25-16.jpg

2K Games and Gearbox Software have introduced new Battleborn playable heroes Shayne and Aurox, Kelvin, and Whiskey Foxtrot.

The three are available to play in both competitive multiplayer matches, as well as the game’s Story Mode, which can be played single-player, co-up with up to five players, or split-screen with two-players.

Details for each character are posted with each trailer below. More information is available at the Battleborn official website.

Battleborn is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 23.
Watch the trailers below. View a set of screenshots at the gallery.
Shayne and Aurox

[YT]XFlVmFxmWas[/YT]
Another unlikely team-up, Shayne was already a bratty teenage girl at the end of the universe with nothing to lose, but her bond with the space creature known as Aurox has made her nearly unstoppable. Joined at the hip, these symbiotic furies strive to utterly demolish their foes through a mixture of brute force and stealth.
Kelvin

[YT]R7_3aE2Yb80[/YT]
At first glance, Kelvin appears to be a hulking ice golem, but is in fact an entire microorganism civilization that, together, form a single sentient being that smashes, chomps and freezes its enemies for the survival of the species.
Whiskey Foxtrot

[YT]xGRYzksv-yY[/YT]
First in the trenches, Whiskey Foxtrot is an offbeat and imperfect facsimile of a soldier. Using scavenged armor and jerry-rigged weapons, everything about Whiskey Foxtrot just seems “off,” but his homemade UPR-SL3 tactical rifle, sticky bombs, and scrap canon can help turn the tide of any battle.

Battleborn : Full Roster Revealed as Last Two Heroes Debut

Posted Mar 03, 2016

Game Informer has a nice article about the final two Battleborn heroes, Kleese And El Dragón. Kleese passes himself off as a 'frail old doctor' but who dominates the battlefield thanks to a tactical battle chair.
El Dragón is a combined version of human and machine thanks to an unfortunate fighting accident when he lost his hands. Head to Game Informer to check out their skills and see them in action in a pair of new videos.
Name: Kleese
Faction: Last Light Consortium
Chosing to play as a frail, old doctor in an action game bursting with overpowered heroes may seem like a dubious choice, but Kleese's "tactical battle chair" helps even the odds. On the personality front, Kleese is kind of like a humorous mix of Professor X and a James Bond villain - he wants to help the Battleborn succeed in saving the final star in the universe, yet he can't help enjoy watching his teammates stumble from time to time. Kleese is the Battleborn's science officer, and barks a mix of instructions and insults at players during missions even when he's not on the ground.

Name: El Dragón
Faction: Last Light Consortium
Humans and machines have a long history of war in Battleborn's lore, and even though the two sides have teamed up to save the last remaining star in the universe, that eternal conflict is still celebrated for entertainment in competitive battles. El Dragón was one of the most popular and successful human fighters in the sport, but a devastating loss ended with the musclebound luchadore getting both of his arms ripped off. Thankfully, El Dragón's comically oversized robot arms make him a force to be reckoned with in battle.

A strategic competitive multiplayer mode, Incursion drops players in the middle of a war zone with the object of driving minions into enemy territory to find and destroy their two Sentry Bots.

The other team is tasked with doing the same, which results in the match becoming a balancing act of defending territory and escorting waves of minions. Players can recruit powerful Thrall mercenaries, use Shards to activate buildable tactical structures like Automatic Turrets to attack the enemy or Healing Stations to regenerate health. Gearbox Software has sent out the first in a series of "motion comics" to provide background and setting for the forthcoming title. At least two more comics are in the works and are set to be published soon.
As Penarch is nearly veiled, Rendain relishes in his success and looks ahead to the inevitable destruction of Solus, The Last Star. While unbeknownst to him his closest advisor has other plans

Battleborn details game features in full

Published 13 hours ago. 20 comments.

An overview of Gearbox's upcoming first-person shooter.

Battleborn_03-30-16.jpg

2K Games and Gearbox Software have detailed in full the features of its upcoming first-person shooter Battleborn.

Get the information below.
Story Mode
Play through repeatable Story Mode episodes to save the last star in the universe from Rendain and the Varelsi. Here’s a few things you can expect as part of Battleborn’s Story mode:

  • Play Solo: Complete missions to unlock the next one.

  • Play Co-Op: Three episodes are displayed for players to vote on regardless of whether or not they’ve unlocked that map in solo.

  • Be Right Back: You can’t join a match that’s already in progress… HOWEVER, you can rejoin your team if you’ve been disconnected from the game.

  • Find Friends: Jump out to the homescreen to party up with friends or search for random teammates, then get cracking on the next S

  • Story episode. When searching for random fellow co-op players, you’ll be matched with others who are similar to your own skill level.

  • Hardcore Mode: When things get tough, make it tougher! If you’re up for a challenge, flip on Hardcore mode and jump into Story episodes for extra loot, all new unlockable content, and some really, REALLY tough fights.
Check out the Battleborn Prequel Web Comic for more backstory to the Battleborn universe!

Competitive Multiplayer Modes
Before the Battleborn joined forces to save the universe, they fought amongst themselves for the few resources that were left. Team up with other players to battle on three Competitive Multiplayer modes, Incursion, Capture, and Meltdown.

  • Incursion: Take out the enemy’s two Spider Sentry Drones before they get to yours.
  • Capture: It’s a classic capture-and-control showdown between two teams of heroes… but more badass!
  • Meltdown: Each team marches waves of minions to their death, and scores points for every minion who throws themselves into the incinerator. The team with the most scrap metal, wins.
  • Skill-Based Matchmaking: Queue up in regular Competitive Multiplayer matches to be matched with and against similarly skilled players.
  • Map Counts: Each mode has 2 maps with many more coming after launch. Take a look at our plans for free DLC here.
  • Private Matches: Get some practice in with private competitive matches. Customize team sizes from 1v1 through 5v5 or toggle the unique character requirement off for a team full of Oscar Mike clones! Private matches also allow you to play against AI bots, but to keep it fair, nobody is cheesing XP from bot matches. The AI bots are based on real-player telemetry, so their behaviors will become more robust as people play the game more.
Progression Systems
Battleborn includes multiple progressions systems. Playing either Story Mode or Competitive Multiplayer Modes will earn you XP towards temporary Helix augmentations as well as persistent Command Rank and Character Rank levels.

  • Helix: During a single Competitive match or Story episode, each level you gain activates a new Helix augmentation opportunity – all the way to level 10. Each level has two augmentation choices and a character’s Helix resets at the beginning of a new match or episode, meaning you can tailor your character’s abilities to the situation at hand.
  • Character Rank: Each character ranks up the more you play them, up to rank 15. The Character Rank levels persist across all modes, and unlike Helix augmentations, this experience never resets. Increasing the Character Rank unlocks Mutations which are extra Augments that become available on the Helix Menu. The higher the Character’s Rank, the more Helix augmentations, taunts, titles, and skins you unlock for that character.
  • Command Rank: Command Rank persists across all modes and all characters played. Every Competitive match (excluding bots) and Story episode grants XP towards your player Command Rank. Rising through the ranks will unlock characters, new Gear options, titles, and more – all the way to Command Rank 100.
25 Badass Battleborn Characters
Battleborn has a large starting roster of 25 playable heroes, and it will continue growing with additional, free heroes after launch. Check out the first 25 here and stay tuned to the news blog for even more information about the different character types: Attackers, Defenders, and Support.

  • Attackers: Charge into the fight with a variety of offensive Battleborn heroes. Throw punches, slice ‘em up, blast ‘em down, or break out the big guns with Rath, Deande, Phoebe, Whiskey Foxtrot, Mellka, Thorn, Marquis, Oscar Mike, Benedict, Caldarius, El Dragón, Orendi, Shayne & Aurox, and Ghalt.
  • Defenders: Take a hit for the team (or two, or three) with the likes of Attikus, Galilea, Kelvin, Boldur, ISIC, Toby, and Montana.
Support: Shields, heals, and still more firepower – Miko, Reyna, Kleese, and Ambra can help the team in the fight.
Play Split-Screen

  • Couch Co-Op: Play split-screen on PS4 and Xbox One.
  • Multiple Couches: You can only do two screens per console. BUT, you can connect with two other co-op playing pals on another machine.
  • Split Screen on Your Team: People playing split screen can join up with any team. The max number of Battleborn per side: five players.
Color-Coded Teams
There isn’t an explicit color blind mode, but we do let you pick your team color and the opposing team’s color. This colorization is applied to enemy color, health bars, competitive objectives, etc., and is available on all platforms.
Battleborn is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 3. A beta will begin on April 8 for PlayStation 4, and April 13 for Xbox One and PC.

This looks like fun. Like going back to the co-op arcade days.

Now that this is in open beta, the NDA is lifted and i can speak on it. I hope they have improved things since the fall bc the game was not fun and based on what I had played, I dont think it will do well. They try and say there's single player but its really just the co-op with bots. Its highly geared for MP and "single player" felt tacked on if that makes sense. Anyone expecting Borderlands is in for a surprise bc Battleborn doesnt quite strike a good balance. Again, this is based off old impressions so I'll play the new beta to see if they had changed. I also felt there were too many characters and they have since added more. I think theres' more than 25? Geez. I think it would have been better if it was a create-a-character instead
