Ben Affleck To Team With DC’s Geoff Johns On Standalone ‘Batman’ Film

I wonder who Affleck will pick to lens the Batman solo, and whether they will shoot on film or digital like he did for Live By Night.

They probably want to use different characters instead since they've already done Ra's Al Ghul.

That's understandable, but having the Nolan-ized versions of the LoA, Bane, etc... remain as the "defining" versions just bugs me.

The new interview with Jeremy Irons:

"Will he have more to do in “Justice League” than he did in “Batman v Superman”?

Similar, but then, of course, Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer. He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that. In the “Justice League” we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film."

That's a fan-made pic, to be clear.

I agree. I mean, I love the DKT and think it's great as it's own standalone interpretation of the Batman mythos. But I hope they don't shy away from anything because they feel like it's already been done. Bane is such a great villain for Batman, between his physicality and strategy. He could be one hell of a great villain in this DCEU version. I love how Rises takes influence from Knightfall and No Man's Land, but those are not the definitive versions of those stories to me, and I think both stories could make for a hell of a blockbuster film on their own. Both put Batman through tremendous challenge and also have potential for a lot of great cameos.

In my ideal world, they would set the stage for No Man's Land in one movie, and then in the interim, have a series or miniseries of NML while Batman is still MIA, kinda like a post apocalyptic series like Walkimg Dead, showing Gordon, Bullock, Leslie Thompkins, Barbara, and other ancillary characters surviving and fighting to get Gotham back, with several roles for great Bat villains like The Penguin. Then Batman would return at the end, or at least you'd start seeing his logo spray painted around the city, and then a big NML blockbuster movie. Don't see that happening, unfortunately.

Saw the Live by Night trailer in front of Jack Reacher yesterday. Affleck's direction is very nice.

If Joker can be in the Burton/Schumacher series, TDK, MOTP, and the Adam West film, and if Catwoman could be in the Adam West Film, Batman Returns, and TDKR, I see no sensible reason why we can't have new versions of Ra's, Talia, or Bane.

Talk of conflict between WB and Affleck from Bret Easton Ellis, (a producer/screenwriter)

“I was having dinner with a couple of executives who know other executives who are working on the [forthcoming] Batman movie, The Batman,” Ellis tells me. “And they were just telling me that there are serious problems with the script. And that the executives I was having dinner with were complaining about people who work on the Batman movie. And they just said they went to the studio and they said, ‘Look, the script is … Here’s 30 things that are wrong with it that we can fix.’ And [the executives] said, ‘We don’t care. We don’t really care. The amount of money we’re going to make globally, I mean 70 percent of our audience is not going to be seeing this in English. And it doesn’t really matter, these things that you’re bringing up about the flaws of the script.’ So I do think global concerns play a big part in how

Could explain why Affleck has been so apprehensive talking about the Batman production timeline

Definitely sounds like something a clueless executive would say.

What could be that off putting about it?

Batman speaks with a French accent.

Remember those leaked Sony e-mails where they were trying to polish Spectre script were fascinating.

They didn't have enouh time and still were making major changes in early December when filming already started.

I'll take anything Bret Easton Ellis says with a grain of salt. Not that I don't doubt it's true, though.

Also to add to that, even though I'm not an El Mayimbe/Umberto Gonzales fan, He says ithe claim is 100% NOT true. So that is two credible sources that dont believe this. With that said, Affleck has said more than once that he wants make sure the script is in a good place before moving forward so there's maybe a level of truth to the script needing more work but this rumor is not something that deserves to be made into another anti-DCEU horror story IMO
