Ben Affleck To Team With DC’s Geoff Johns On Standalone ‘Batman’ Film

Ellis didn't say that Affleck wrote a bad script, only that there were problems. Which is very likely true, as Ben admitted that he was still working out the kinks during the press tour for the Accountant.

So while its very likely that at least some WB execs don't care about the script and would put "The Batman" into production tomorrow, it appears as though Mr. Affleck isn't going to start filming until he is damn good and ready.

That sounds like quality quality control. :o

Wonder how close Hughes is to DC/WB because every single time he's ultra-defensive. In football/soccer news some journos work for certain agents so wonder if it's similar in movie news... lol

However certain news outlets with clickbait headlines saying the script is " A Mess" isnt helping anyone since people tend to be generally be quick to react and slow to read what is actually said either way

It's something we've already known and one where Affleck addressed some time ago. There's probably many, many rewrites to this thing to get right. I love the "I had dinner with an executive who is close to other executives of executives working on The Batman..". Lmao, too funny.

Good timing for that rumor (which in ways, was already reported before) to come out a day after everybody was HYPED over the Wonder Woman trailer. No coincidence.

Yeah. He probably got a fat paycheck from the mouse.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt for the moment but if true it's genuinely disheartening if the talk behind the scenes at WB is they don't care about the quality.

Hopefully they are atleast willing to stay out of the way of the filmmakers/creative team members that DO care about the quality of their work.

Yup...Anytime people get excited about a DC movie property there's some negative rumor that pops up conveniently.

I mean the movie is still a ways away from production. Why couldn't they make the fixes and changes yet? Don't Johns and Berg have the power to do that? I'm not getting this logic Ellis presented. It doesn't really make any sense.

Based on the way Ellis has framed it, I'd assume that while the top studio heads might not care....They don't seem to be trying to stop the people that do care from fixing it...Hence why Affleck is taking him time with it.

Ellis didn't say the shooting draft will be awful just that he was told studio execs don't care because they think they can get away with everything. And that might be true when you see Transformers / Pirates / BvS / Skwad box office.

I hope you're joking because that article isn't even about DC... It's called Movies aren't dead, but they'll never be the same.

Snap. But I know Affleck at least cares about quality.

I don't believe it for a second. Ben has said he's not going to film until the script is up to his standards. And seeing as this movie will be written and directed by HIM, he's not going to put out something that's not quality.

Yeah. I really don't think its that far fetched that the execs are more concerned about the bottom line than about crafting a critically acclaimed Batman script.

Affleck himself said that the story wasn't were he wanted it to be yet ,so the idea that it has issues isn't that far out of the realm of possibility.

I tend to think regardless of WB's willingness to put out stinker, they'll defer to Affleck working the story until he thinks its good.

WB mentality:
'Why bother about the quality? Our biggest cash suppliers write "bateman v sooperman awsum" in the twitter comments...'

The reality is, even though this isn't confirmed at all, it's entirely in the realms of possibility due to how WB have handled their superhero properties over the years that this is the mentality at the studio. It's no coincidence the only films in the past 10 years that haven't had issues in terms of production and reception are Nolan's Batman movies.

Here's the actual tweet:

It's a weird statement to backpedal on, and his backpedal is even weirder. I mean if it was an interview why would he assume any comments like that wouldn't be fair game?

That being said, his original statement was just weird. I mean yeah, I can see studio heads being more concerned about the bottom line and global audience. At the same time, that doesn't mean if there are 30 problems they can fix to easily make it better, it's not like those fixes can't get made.

Which makes it even funnier and obvious. The point I'm making isn't about the point of the article in which it was intended. The point is the clickbait articles spinning it out of control to make it appear as if The Batman is doomed and how much WB doesn't have a handle on the DCEU. This type of thing will be fuel added to the fire when necessary. Affleck said he's not rushing and it's big to get it right, yet, that will fall on deaf ears from here on out. The words Ellis muttered will now be used conveniently throughout now and until the time 'The Batman' starts heavy production. Guaranteed.
