Ben Affleck's Batman vs. Christian Bale's

Which points do you disagree with Watchmojo on?

The points distribution for me, is not the issue, I can make my own view on that, it's the narration, context and edit structure that bring me to that view.

Is it just Watchmojo's "point of view" you disagree with? Their opinion?

Their opinion is their opinion, I have zero bearing on that, that's theirs to own and have, and they are entitled too it, my 'bug-bear' is they've, for me, to get to the conclusion they want (Bale to win) directed the narrative of the commentary of the films to either 'ignore' or 'purposely mis-understand and edit accordingly the clips to 'suit' said direction.

Okay, this is a deceptively tricky question because not only are we comparing performances but also the characterisation ( Batman and/or Bruce) look and action aspects of the two versions.

IMO Bale wins on all of these except fight choreography and Bat Voice. One thing that Snyder succeeded with was bringing Miller's Dark Knight to life in terms of how he fights (mostly anyway, because Miller's Batman breaks bones but doesn't beat his enemies to death) and his fight moves are much more impressive than Nolan's.

However, I prefer the TDK costume because it looks like armour, rather than a muscle suit.

Despite the awful Bat growl, Bale really captures Batman's rage and anguish, and delivers his lines much better than Affleck - but he's a better actor anyway. As both Batman and Bruce Bale is more engaging.

While Bale's Batman isn't as handy with his fists, he displays more brains ( particularly in TDK) and has a lower body count.

So Bale for me !

I like both a lot. I prefer Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, Affleck might win as Batman with a small margin. Bale obviously had better material to work with.

OP is really on a tear with creating random threads.

my favorite batman is always micheal keaton batman movies!! shoot i even liked the 1960s adam west batman tv show!! then i liked christian bales!! i enjoyed ben Affleck's movies!! I thought ben Affleck's was ok for batman! he was kind of liked older version of bruce wayne / batman!! if they ever make an live aciton batman beyond movie my first choice for as for older bruce wayne would be micheal keaton or if they couldn't get him then ben Affleck!! i even heard that they wanted to use christian bales batman in batman vs super man dawn of justice!! wonder what that be liked?

Weird, because I think Affleck PERFORMED the role better (more imposing, faster, stoic) but I think Bale was FAR better characterized (less killing, more strategy, better Wayne)

Characterization> sheer acting-though Conroy had the benefit of both. I'm going with Bale between the two choices.

Slightly unfair on Affleck this one, to be honest.

Bale got to play Batman over three movies, made by the best filmmaker in the world, playing a well thought out characterisation that had enough time to explore Batman’s psyche properly.

Affleck was in two awful movies - neither of which were Batman solos - with poor characterisation, made by an average filmmaker, and a studio flailing around like a turd in the wind.

Would Affleck have been as good as Bale with equal screen time, characterisation and development? No, of course he wouldn’t. Bale is the far better actor. But would Affleck had been regarded as still pretty damn good? Very probably.

Dude I applaud @BatmanBegins05 for his energy - I think everyone has had a burst of thread creation. And TBH there's not much to talk about Batman-wise right now so it's good that at least someone is keeping the conversation alive.

The choreography in Rises, especially at the end, is not good. The crowd fight's bad, too. That suit doesn't look great in retrospect, and, for whatever reason, Bale looks like he can barely move in it. Very, very stiff. (In Begins, one easily accepts the idea that is quite agile.)

And that brings me to the BvS suit, which is hand-over-fist the best Batman suit we've ever gotten. The cowl sculpt is unbelievably badass. All you have to do is pause the video at 3:28 for said proof. The entire suit, with the tone variance and the big Miller-derived bat emblem is just awesome.

How anyone can not take the BvS suit over the rest is beyond me. Nolan's Bat-cowls all looked too "helmet-y."

A style concern, really.

My favourite movie is The Dark Knight. I think BvS is a garbage fire. Even I know the BvS suit is better than the TDK suit.

...the Begins suit is better than either though.

Bruce Wayne - This one is super tough for me because I think both made great Bruce Wayne's but if forced to pick between them both I would be inclined to lean towards Bale because he got to do more of the traditionally Bruce Wayne stuff like being a jack***, jumping in to pools with European models and alienating himself from the rest of the wealthy for a drunken rant. These always felt like Bruce's constant reminder of how selfish, arrogant or rude he is so to even further any potential idea that he could be Batman. Bale

Bat-voice - For a lot of people the worst part's of the Nolan trilogy is Bale's bat voice but personally I always liked it for the sheer reason it does what is intended in masking Bale's voice. With that said I still think Affleck's voice modulator was the best interpretation so far. Affleck

Batsuit - For me it would be between the Batman Begins suit and Affleck's BvS suit. Personally thought the TDK & TDKR suit's were a step back. Although its very close because I love both suits I would have to give a slight edge to Affleck's. Affleck

Batmobile - Tumbler all day. Nothing against Affleck's batmobile just that the Tumbler feel's a lot more iconic and even though it's meant to be the more grounded one it felt deadlier that Affleck's batmobile. Bale

Gadgets/Tech
- A tough one here has Affleck seems to have the more varied arsenal in terms of the Batmobile, Batplane & The Nightcrawler. But Bale displayed more actual gadgets if I remember correctly. The Pneumatic Mangler, Sonar Bat-Goggles, Bat Summoning Beacon, EMP Rifle and fireable blades from his gauntlents. Bale

Fight Choreography - Again while I feel the batmobile is a walk over for Bale the fighting is clearly a walkover for Affleck as he's clearly has the superior fight scenes and has given us the pretty much the best live action Batman fight scenes to date. Affleck

Detective Work - Something that was a little lacking in both men's film's but I give the edge to Bale due to the scene where he analyses the bullet in TDK. Bale

Well after some hard decisions im done and the final score is 4 to Bale and 3 to Affleck. Bale wins!

We already know how you feel about the movie. I'm talking about the suit.

Nope. Like I said, the BvS suit is the best Batman suit on film. :D:

Speaking of the Batmobiles, I loved the BvS Batmobile. I don't rate it above the Tumbler, because that was one crazy-cool experiment that actually worked. The most unusual Batmobile ever. Just love 'em both!

Does it annoy anyone else when people try to bring up the Batman voice (which honestly isn't even that bad) as an example of why Bale is inferior to Keaton or Affleck? That's really superficial to me.

No, because I fall in that camp. Batman Begins aside, I cannot take Christian Bale seriously as Batman whenever he opens his mouth. I just can't. I am seriously unable to get through the "Where's the trigger?" scene in TDKR without laughing.

I really like Affleck and want to love his Batman...but I really cannot stomach the use of guns and the killing. I know some people will bite my head off for that take, but it’s really important to me.

Keaton's Batman killed before Batfleck. And talk about those big guns on the Batplane.
