I have no idea who they are but they are now making the news for their homophobic remarks. And it's cost them a new television show.

It's "reality television" about flipping houses so I'm of the mind it should never have been approved to begin with. Those shows misleadingly make it look like it's a lucrative and profitable business without a lot of danger (both the financial and physical aspects). The twist on this is the homes they flip are given to a family which needs and probably cannot afford the long term payments for. But it would have made for a nice television show that doesn't look back in a year or two to see the people got evicted.

No loss there IMO.

Benham brothers lose HGTV show after 'anti-gay' remarks

Twin brothers David and Jason Benham have lost their opportunity to host their own HGTV show.

The brothers ran afoul of the network after the site Right Wing Watch published a post about the pair, labeling David Benham as an "anti-gay, anti-choice extremist" for reportedly leading a prayer rally in 2012 outside of the Democratic National Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The site posted a recording of Benham talking to a talk show host about "homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation" and "demonic ideologies" taking hold in colleges and public schools.

Benham also discusses the fight for North Carolina's Amendment One, which involved a ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions in the state constitution.

The Benham brothers were the planned stars of the HGTV show "Flip It Forward," set to premiere in October, in which they would have helped families purchase homes they otherwise could not afford. An April press release described the planned show this way: "After a decade of flipping houses for profit, brothers David Benham and Jason Benham now help families buy the homes they never thought they could afford. In each episode, the guys help a deserving family find a fixer-upper and transform it into their forever home - with a healthy dose of sibling rivalry between the brothers along the way."

But after the post went public, HGTV tweeted, "HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers' series."

HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers' series.

The pair responded with the following statement:

"The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is: have we shined Christ's light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying.

"Over the last decade, we've sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views.

"We were saddened to hear HGTV's decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it."

There is also a YouTube video of David Benham speaking at a "celebration" of a closing of an abortion clinic in 2013. Website GlobalFlare.com, which emphasizes "positive news and entertainment," called it a "smear campaign" against the brothers. The organization Faith Driven Consumer, which started a campaign in support of Phil Robertson of "Duck Dynasty," has launched #FlipThisDecision, a petition aimed at reinstating the HGTV show.

Anytime homophobic idiots don't get their 15 mins of fame the way they wanted I put a mark down in the win column

These two graduated from Liberty "University". That should tell us all we need to know.

Good. If HGTV would like to revisit the premise they can always find another pair of House Flippers to do it.

flipping houses is show-worthy?

Apparently, since this wouldn't even be the first show about flipping houses. There are stupid reality shows for pretty much everything now.

TONS! They were all over A&E, TLC, and HGTV. I did enjoy the ones where they were first time house flippers and how they would think they knew better than the actual professionals the show hired to give them tips on what they should and shouldn't do. Of course they would go against pretty much everything the professionals would say.

Watching people fail is the new American pastime.

Unlike Duck Dynasty, this business decision actually makes sense. The audience of these shows is basically 50% women, 40% gay guys and 10% straight men being forced to watch with their wives or girlfriends.

I don't know what to think about this. This is beginning to border on censorship. Still, once your company runs into trouble with the so-called "gay mafia" you're in trouble, so I can see why they dropped them. And they did say some pretty stupid things.

Maybe anti-gay people should just get their own network?

Its not cencorship. Not even close imo. When you enter into a contract with a company if the company doesnt like the image you are spreading around they have the right to terminate you to protect themselves.

True. But I'm not crazy about where this is going. This isn't some isolated incident.

Remember those Duck people? That Mozilla CEO? Just off the top of my head.

There's already a pair of twins with a similar show. Make it more charity focused and it's basically this one.

Makes for "damn good television"!

There is also One Million Moms, a right wing Christian group that sends letters and emails of complaints to anyone and everyone that they deem is going against traditional, Christian, family values. And they have had success before with censorship.

One Million Moms (bit of a misnomer, since it has like 40,000 members) hasn't successfully organized against anyone or anything though. They just whine, and get laughed at. At least not that I am aware of.

Well, 1MM is the brainchild of the American Family Association.

And they have a lot more money to throw around (or take away). It's hard to say whether or not their actions have any impact on society, but they do seem to have their hand in the political jar as well. I'll bet they have some pull.
