I loved Spidey Unlimited's pilot.. great stuff. Would have liked to have seen where the story was going too, hated the cliffhanger and that they never revealed the big overarching mystery of the symbiotes. Another great aspect of it was just how many parts of the Marvel universe were incorporated into the show.. parts that, as far as I know, have never really been put into anything other than video games at most.

I think I'm literally the only person alive that liked Unlimited though.

people tent to look at old tv shows through rose tinted glass

JL/JLU > BTAS
wolverine and the X-Men > X-MEN TAS
SSM > Spider-man TAS

How come Superman is NOT on the list???

Supes came out in the 90s.

And is really the series that started the JL/JLU universe.

I know Batman came first, but there are more references to the Superman series that connects JL and JLU into a whole Universe.

You left out Superman TAS, that's always been a fav of mine. On this list, however, it's Batman, no doubt. The FOX shows were good too, but from what I remember from school, Marvel fans were a lot more conservative back then. But hey, I loved those shows too. Great to grow up in the 90s... oh yeah, and Beavis and Butthead are superheroes in my book.

Don't forget that Batman was originally a show on FOX. Things changed a bit when it went over to the WB.

it's when they revamped the show and there were new character designs. the redesigned Joker looked awful i remember. the new Batmobile was sick though. and Tim was the new Robin while Dick became Nightwing

I got to see an episode of the 90's X-Men TAS while staying at a hotel recently. Brought back memories of when I watched as a kid, but more than that the animation quality was terrible! And I mean terrible in comparison to BTAS, which I have on DVD. The character animation made everyone move like Legos or something while BTAS has much smoother animation.

Story wise, it's Batman hands down. It holds up even to today, followed by X-Men. I like Spidey too but season 4 and 5; the show began to re-use to much stock footage from other eps, which got annoying.

Best Batman eps were always the ones with Clayface to me.

Yeah, I hated how Spider-Man was censored, and they were all on the same network!!! WTF??!!

Yeah, but if memory serves me correctly Spidey came on on a Saturday morning, whereas Batman came on in the evening, on a week day. That may have something to do with it.

I doubt it had much to do with what time of day the show aired. Batman got moved to Saturday mornings and remained basically unchanged. Even when it came on weekdays, it was still a daytime program.

Spider-Man was basically a victim of the network getting a lot of complaints by that point. Batman had been running for a couple of years before Spider-Man, and we all know how practically every cartoon made by Timm & Dini liked to push the envelope a little. By the time Spider-Man came around, Fox had a whole new set of rules for censoring their superhero programs. These changes didn't really affect Batman because Batman's final season on Fox aired at the same time as Spider-Man's first season.

That's not to say Batman didn't get censored at all. I heard that they wanted to go with a younger version of Robin, but Fox wouldn't allow them to portray a child in danger on the show. Batman moved to the WB, and bingo-bango we got Timson Drodd.

I voted for Spiderman but they should have kept the theme music from the classic 70s show

'Spiderman, spiderman, does whatever a Spider can'

It's either BTAS or X-Men but I'd pick BTAS since X-Men was at times a mess as great as it was.

BTAS along with The Simpsons were the first series to prove that cartoons are not always for only kids.

DC has always put forth better animated series in the 90's no matter what it was. Better stories, better mood, better acting, waaaaay better action.

With a few exceptions (IM & FF seasons 2 & IH) Marvel's animated output always sucked.

DC's villains and heroes duked it out and laid waste to areas! They weren't afraid to show violence. (Cool!) Marvel's has shoving matches and property damage. They seemed to do everything they could to keep from getting violent. (Lame.)

So of the 3:
Batman: TAS ---- it's no contest.

BTAS was very well done, but not very fun. I recall specifically not watching them as a kid for that reason. It's definitely geared at an older crowd.

It's amazing how well B:TAS holds up, even today. I seriously doubt that they'll be a more definitive Batman series anytime soon...
