Best Scene in the movie: Han, Chewie, Rey and Finn escaping from the two rival gangs in the Falcon, all while dealing with these gelatinous, tentacled monstrosities that were trying to eat them. That was the first moment where I fully relaxed and thought 'Oh, I'm actually watching a Star Wars film, and not those mediocre CGI horrorshows from the early 2000s!'.
Worst Scene in the movie: The First Order being preached to by General Hux. The Nazi symbolism was way too on the nose and silly. Especially the moment when the stormtroopers actually performed a Nazi salute. When that happened, me and my friend turned to each other and just grinned. I thought, really? Did they not think we wouldn't get what they were going for with the whole madman ranting and raving before legions of soldiers while their flags billow in the distance? Did they have to go over the top and show the stormtroopers actually full-on parody the third reich?
Best Character: We'll leave out the original characters, yes? My favourite character was probably Rey. I thought she was endearing and had the right mix of sweetness, naivety and badassery. And she was pretty hot.
Worst Character: General Hux. This is more a default honour, because there really wasn't anyone in the film who was bad enough to warrant the position of 'worst' character. Though as I said, the whole Nazi referencing scene (which Hux was the linchpin of) was cringey as hell.
Most Eye-rolling thing in the movie: At the start where Poe is thrown to the ground to be interrogated by Ren, only to perform an incredibly lame Star Trek-esque moment of Kirk-like banter when he said 'So who's gonna talk first? Me? You? Me?' Ugh, lame.
Most Exciting Scene: Probably the moment where the crew escaped in the Falcon, as I already said. But other than that,
I was flabbergasted when Han was killed by Ren. I didn't think they'd actually go through with it. I still think they'll bring him back in some capacity.
Least Exciting Scene: I was actually pretty unimpressed by the opening with the village being raided by the stormtroopers. But I think that's because I was still a little uncertain as to whether or not this film was even a good idea. t: But yeah, I remember thinking that certain lines were a bit lame or even badly delivered (mostly by Poe, who I then went on to love as a character). And the action left me cold. But I'm sure I'll grow to like it in future. I do remember thinking that it was cool how they'd once again made the stormtroopers actually pretty threatening and cool.
