My Norton Antivirus Trial has expired and I don´t have the money to buy a license. I don´t know too much about antivirus, so I was wondering if someone know of a good antivirus that is free to download?

Thanks.

Love AVG. More efficient, and doesn't take up nearly as much space on your computer as Norton and McAfee do.

I am trying Avast now, lets see how it works. Thanks a lot guys.

doesn't have real time protection unless you pay for it, but it's great for getting rid of spyware.
Good point, forgot that part.

Which is funny, because that's why I got AVG in the first place :o

AVG wont update for me.. I just installed it and when I update it says .bin file missing.. What the hell?

Nevermind.. I fixed it.. Seems it has the same problem Spybot has on vista..

Switched Avast for AVG. Avast didn´t work well for me.

It was malfunctioning. When I wanted to erase a virus or send it to the chest, Avast stopped working.

I havent' had an anti virus installed on my computer in over 5 years and i've been virus free. Why? because idiots open files they don't know.

You can get virus by just surfing the net or even visiting this forum

Wow. Are you calling me an idiot? Because I've gotten a virus without opening ANY attachments or files. Viruses can be contracted by just visiting a website nowadays.

Your ignorance in this matter is amazing.

I love your theory, but I'd bet $1000 I could run a scan on your pc and come up with all kinds of stuff.

I've been using Avira Antivir Personal for over a year and a half now and I haven't had any problems with it. It pretty much catches anything that might be threatening to my system and the scans don't take all night to run either. Far from perfect because it doesn't scan emails I think...

Avast is pretty good too but it slowed down my pc and that update voice always catches me off guard when it notifies me...

I use Avast and Sypbot Search and Destroy.

From my information, Norton AV has been improved seriously.
They removed alot of the garbage that was in it, and pared it down to the core AV product.

Try Antivirus 2009 or XP Security Center... Nah just messing with you. :)

Kaspersky, hands down.

Norton has evolved greatly over the years but even with it's current improvements, it still hogs a tremendous amount of resources. My top three choices are as follows:
Kaspersky
Webroot SS/AV
Norton

Kaspersky has great detection rates and does not bog your system down. Webroot SS/AV have a tendency to get corrupt if you do not keep on top of your updates. Norton, as I said, is still a hog compared to the other two.
