Yup, that's actually a better example than Temple of Doom as far as traumatizing kids (even though it definitely happened with TOD, they did warn people with the PG-13 rating).
Tbf, I read Bluth not liking Universal and Spielberg back in 2010 on dvdizzy forums back in the day, so I could be misremembering.

It checks out though since Spielberg made a lot of cuts to The Land Before Time and they never worked together again afterwards.

Sucks too since I wanted some of those shelved projects over say Rock-a-Doodle and A Troll in Central Park. 🤭

East of the Sun and West of the Moon and his Blue Whale Bambi movies seemed interesting.

Even as a kid apart from Anastasia I never had any desire to see his '90s stuff in theaters. There was just no competing with Disney at that time. Rock A Doodle, Thumbelina and A Troll in Central Park...I think I ended up renting all of those at some point as a "we're leaving the video store in 2 minutes, pick something or you get nothing" ultimatum. :o

Yeah, even Spielberg’s non-Bluth Amblimation films suffered as well; Fievel Goes West is a big step-down and We’re Back: A Dinosaur’s Story sucks. Balto I know has some love but I haven’t heard anyone talk about it much anymore.

That said, he was killing it on TV with Tiny Toons and Animaniacs.

Of course then he founded Dreamworks and the animation wing there took over from his Amblimation and the rest became history.

I have a soft spot for We're Back because I loved it as a kid. It's one of those movies that's most definitely bad but I can never hate because of nostalgia (like Space Jam).

I think we owned Rock-A-Doodle and just had it on as background noise as a kid. They used to show his 90s movies at school to keep us busy. I remembering liking the first part of Thumbelina and hated the frogs, Gilbert Gottfried, and the mole. Which is most of the movie. 😂

The death scene freaked me the **** out as a kid.
