So what did you guys think were the best film scores of 2010 ?
I can't comment b/c I only have two scores that were from 2010 films. And I haven't seen that many films this year.

Hmmm...

Tron Legacy was definitely my favorite. Say what you want about the movie, but Daft Punk's score was flawless.

Others...

Inception
Black Swan
127 Hours
The Social Network
True Grit (although that song during the credits made me want to gouge out my eardrums)

TRON: Legacy was very enchanting. Great stuff from first time film composers.

Danny Elfman's score for Alice in Wonderland:

[YT]XYx4IKR1CXM[/YT]

James Powell's score for How to Train Your Dragon.

[YT]KUWBm0Z-Xww[/YT]

Howard Shore's score for, um, [BLACKOUT]Twilight: Eclipse[/BLACKOUT].

[YT]ocAzDiBtRYY[/YT]

James Newton Howard's score for The Last Airbender.

[YT]qS8VmjQdt30[/YT]

James Newton Howard's score for Salt.

[YT]nMTS5re5zvE[/YT]

I would count Inception, but I think it's funny that the best track in the movie was actually written for the trailer. Hans Zimmer is getting praise for something he didn't even write. True Grit is great as well, but Carter Burwell repeated too much of his work from Fargo. And, I haven't watched Tron: Legacy yet, so I can't comment on it. Sure, I can go and listen to the score but I want to experience it within context.

It wasn't so much so score I listen to, but here's my favorite in no particular order.

Tron: Legacy - It's Daft Punk and it's different from what the duo did since they added orchestral to the score.

Tangled - I love it since Alan Menken was onboard for the score, which felt throwback to his earlier work and at the same time make it feel refreshing, very medieval and folk.

The Social Network - I like what Reznor and Ross did with the score, it's also similar to Nine Inch Nails' album Ghost I-IV which is also one of my favorite album from NIN.

Black Swan - Another great job from Mansell, before watching the movie I thought it felt weak compared to his previous work but after viewing the movie I felt that he manages to make it work for the movie, using elements from Swan Lake and add some creepy eerie music to it too.

Inception - A outstanding score from Zimmer.

Aside from the scores for Inception and Tron: Legacy, I really loved the score for Scott Pilgrim.

It pays homage to a lot 80's scores, rock and 8-bit video game music, and it's just a really fun, energetic, unique and awesome score.

Now, unlike the Academy, I include scores that use other material...if it works for the movie, it works.

1. Inception: Music by Hans Zimmer
2. Black Swan: Music by Clint Mansell
3. True Grit: Music by Carter Burwell
4. The Social Network: Music by Trent Reznor
5. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo: Music by Jacob Groth
6. The Town: Music by Harry Gregson-Willams
7. The Wolfman: Music by Danny Elfman
8. Kick-Ass: Music by a lot of people

...yes I used wikipedia to look up most of their names. ;)

By the looks of it Tron 2 must have a pretty amazing score the way everybody is praising the music.

:doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:

The trailer music isn't actually in the movie. And the guy who wrote the trailer music actually based it on what Zimmer was doing for the movie itself. The best track in the score is Time, which sounds nothing like the trailer music.

Probably Tron: Legacy for best new film score. I was shocked by how good the score was.

But the best new release of the year was definitely LOST: The Last Episodes.

Speaking of Giacchino, Let Me In is apparently one of the year's best as well.

I haven't actually had the time to listen to the Millennium soundtrack since I didn't noticed so much music in the movie(s). :O
And Tron: Legacy had a good score, I wouldn't want to put your hopes high but for me since I'm a huge fan of Daft Punk I think they did a great job.

Not in any order.

Kick-Ass : Love every track, and I still say its a shame I had to get this illegally and not on CD because of the refusal for american customers. "The Fight" is one of my top ten tracks of the year.

Iron Man 2 : I feel like I am the only one who liked the first movie's score, so when I found out Debney replaced Ramin; I was promptly upset. That being said, I really did enjoy his score, even getting a signed copy of it, and still wish the proposed "2 Discer'' would have happened.

Deathly Hallows : Like IM2, I was originally very unhappy with Desplat replacing Hooper, (Hooper was fine damnit :cmad: ) and maybe even Williams (through no fault of Desplat's own) but MY GOD the music...I went from "meh whatever" to promptly getting my hands on everything Alexandre Desplat I could find.

Inception : Need I say more?:whatever: :oldrazz:

Home Alone : I know, this is to a 1990 film, not 2010. But it was re-released in a complete score form in early december, thus I count it. Thanks la-la land.

James Hannigan's Harry Potter 7 game score : Listen to the free MP3 of the title theme, and don't tell me that it isn't anything less than wonderful. Shame EA decided not to put this out.

Alice in Wonderland : Although I didn't hate the movie at all...the score Elfman gave was so much more than the film deserved.

Wolfman : The Year of the Elfman, and Pope's contributions too :awesome:

Twilight Eclipse : I don't care what anyone says, I may not be a fan of the series, but damn they know how to hire a composer, and I gladly own New Moon and Eclipse in my collection

Social Network : Fantastic. That is all.

Scott Pilgrim....I'm torn. I like it but don't love it.

Not in order:

Inception
Alice in Wonderland
How to Train Your Dragon
127 Hours
Kick-Ass
The Social Network
Tron Legacy

there's more but for now...

1. Toy Story 3
Just incredible work all around. Randy Newman may have a goofy singing voice, but his score can pull some heartstrings.
[YT]MSKJynYJO2Y[/YT]

2. Inception
The whole score gave me goosebumps, but not as much as the last scene.
[YT]Z0kGAz6HYM8[/YT]

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Probably the best HP score since John Williams left the series. Really set the mood for the story.
[YT]7RkRlgYGdbY[/YT]

4. Kick-Ass
I think it's better than most superhero movie scores today.
[YT]JYdp36bA-hU[/YT]

5. How To Train Your Dragon
Just one of the many things that made this movie great.

Kick Ass
Inception
The Social Network

Those are the only ones I really care about.

Without a doubt my favorite was Tron:Legacy

I honestly found this to be the only letdown of the movie. Not bad by any means, but I felt he could do much better.

It was very impressive I don't think anybody expected it to be as good as it is. They managed to incorporate synthesizers and an orchestra into pure sonic heaven. You have to see the movie though cause every film score is a character in the film itself and must be taken in sync with the visuals. Here's a small taste and this isn't even the best piece on the score though it was the first one to make me go "whoa wtf is this awesomeness" lol

1) Inception
2) Tron Legacy
3) The Social Network
4) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
5) Let Me In

Definitely a great year.

Inception is my favorite, I liked it far more that the batman scores, not that they are bad.

Daft Punks Tron Score was one of the few redeeming factors of that movie for me.

Reznors score for The Social Network was pretty sweet.

Kick Ass
Inception
The Social Network
Tron: Legacy

1. Tron Legacy
2. Inception
3. Kick Ass

Those three are sublime. Especially Tron Legacy. Daft Punk needs to score more movies and if they're not nominated for an oscar it will be a huge snub.

True Grit.

Tron Legacy's was good, but way to distracting in the film. A good score has to work hand in hand with the movie.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1
say what you will about the movie but the The Last Airbender score was at least the only good thing about it.
