I thought I would do this thread before Inglorious Basterds comes out as that would probably clean up this thread when it is released. So, what do you think is the best modern World-War 2 movie? Here are the poll choices, and also the critics scores from Rotten-tomatoes just as an add on.

I personally like them all, with the exception of U-571 as that took the biggest liberty with the story by claiming the Americans broke the Nazi's code when the English actually did.

Rating:

Saving Private Ryan-91%
U-571-68%
Below-64%
Valkyrie-60%
Enemy At The Gates-58%
Defiance-55%
Pearl Harbour-25%

I'm not going to vote until I see Defiance later this week, but please, vote away.

Ryan (specially if you edit out the first and last 5 minutes imo).
And also from the german perspective, Das Boot and Downfall are in their own way two very powerful WW2 movies.

Saving Private Ryan. Its the best modern WW2 movie. The best war movie period. And one of the best movies of all time

Is this even a competition? Saving Private Ryan hands down.

Saving Private Ryan. If Band of Brothers were considered a movie. I'd take that.

They are horrible.

SPR has the dumbest story ever.

I say "Enemy AT the Gates"

Saving Private Ryan, one of the greatest movies i have ever seen

Saving Private Ryan, hands down. It's such a beautifully executed movie on every level. Just to be thorough, I'd have included Windtalkers and Memphis Belle in the poll as well.

Great poll Idea, but your missing a couple films...

- Flags of our Fathers
- The Thin Red Line
- Letters from Iwo Jima

Saving Private Ryan.

*Michelle*

Duhhhhh.

Saving Private Ryan. All the others are booooooring.

Thought I missed a couple out, sorry about that.

LOL I have no idea what the poll results will be. :whatever:

And Ryan.

^While its pretty certain Ryan will win, I thought some of the others would get quite a few votes as well.

Band of Brothers.

(And before everyone says it... it's not tv... it's HBO :o )

Honorable Mention- Black Book(If you haven't seen it, it's from the director of Striptease)

I'd probably say Flags of our Fathers.

^Atonement is another one I missed, Windtalkers as well, but I doubt anyone would have voted for that anyway.

Saving Private Ryan
i have seen alot of WW2 movies and nothing can surpass this movie

oh wait a sec. i forgot to think of Letters from Iwo Jima
that movie is better than Saving Private Ryan by a hair imo
