What would you say is the best novel to film translation? Comic books don't count here.

I'd go with either Jaws or Charlie/Flowers for Algernon.

- The Hunt For Red October.
- The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

Can't think of any right now.
Be back with more results.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is the best for me.
And The Bourne Identity and Supremacy, even though they are far from accurate, they are VERY good.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Hannibal (probably the single most underrated movie ever made).

Forgot about The Silence Of The Lambs.

The Shawshank Redemption is probably the only adaptation where I thought the movie was better than the story it was based on

I would have to say The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy and Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Das Boot. Some of the events were cut/moved around (even then, depending on the version, it's 4-5 hours long), but as far as tone and mesage it is spot on.

The Green Mile is a damn fine adaption

Hands down, no contest, FIGHT CLUB

Along with the others many people above me have said

Chronicles of Narnia was pretty good

Only the first of the Lord of the Rings was a good adaptation. While the others were good movies they were not as faithful to the source material as the first one was.

Wasn't the big spider supposed to be in The Two Towers?

Yes, according to the book. But as Jackson explained the "Shelob encounter" occurs during the Battle of Pelennor Fields in the book as well.

Since he decided to save that battle for ROTK, it was only logical to to save the Shelob scene as well.

So yes book-wise, its inaccurate--but for the sake of being consistient chronologically in terms of the war...it was accurate.

To Kill a Mockingbird.

the only two that come to mind that were, for me, better than the books they were based on are fight club and the shawshank redemption.

To Kill A Mockingbird
IT
Jaws
The Silence of the Lambs
Sin City (well they are graphic novels, but oh well)
The Brave Little Toaster

Shawshank Redemption
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Silence of the Lambs
Carrie
Chronicles of Narnia
Interview With The Vampire
The Da Vinci Code
The Amityville Horror
The Green Mile
American Psycho
Lord of the Flies
IT
The Stand
