Which of the first 15 issues of The Amazing Spider-Man do you consider the best?

a lot of people are going to say issue 3 but i'm going a little left field on this one...

IF I can only vote for one, I'd say ASM #12. But it only ever so slightly edges out the others. The entire 15 issue run is golden and establishes the best superhero ever, along with the best rogues gallery ever. And things only got better from issues #16 onward.

They all rock. Every single one of them.

My personal favs being ASM #3, 11, 12, and 13.

Why is that??

why only the first 15 issues?

Issue 12 without a doubt. They were all magnificent issues, but 12 featured Spider-Man unmasked and doomed...and it was only the 13 issue of the web-slinger's career!! Joe Q thinks he's "shocked the world" with the unmasking....Stan was 40+ years ahead of him. ;)

My second favorite would be the debut of my favorite villian of all time, the Green Goblin. GG's 2nd and 3rd appearances were far more memorable, IMHO.

Why is #12 my favorite? Because Spidey had hit his stride. He was the comical yet ever-increasingly effective hero, facing a great villain, with great action. The cover is one of my all-time favorites, and presents us with a genuine "Oh-****" situation, which is resolved perfectly.

At that time, over at DC pretty much every other issue of Superman and Batman featured some kind of unmasking, with the resolution being ridiculous. Superman uses his super breath to make it appear that some guy is flying, so he must be the real Superman, and Clark is in the clear. Batman hypnotizes someone to admit to being Batman, or some celebrity "acts" like Batman. In ASM #12, no dumb-assed gimmicks, just logic. Nobody believes Peter Parker, a 16 year old kid can possibly be Spider-Man. That simple. It also introduced us to Spidey's weakness to virus, which unlike many such concepts, wouldn't be forgotten. It played a heavy part in many other Spidey stories, the ultimate of which being ASM #121.

But again, I love all those stories equally, so there's only the slightest edge to #12. Hell, if I think about harder, I might come up with another issue to hold the top spot, or conclude that none do. But at a glance, I'd say #12.

I voted the #8 because in it was everything. First and foremost Peter beat up Flash at last! There was a psychologial crisis whether the Living Brain revealing Peter secret identity. It was funny and interesting.
I liked a lot the #15 with Kraven, too and the #4 with Sandman.

#6 for me. I grew up near the Florida Everglades, and The Lizard was the first Marvel character to show up in OUR "neck of the woods", so that issue remains somewhat special to me.

That, and he's just a great character, imo.

Because they were pretty much all, 'Spidey versus brand new villain'. The ones after feature Spidey interacting more with the established Marvel universe and returning bad guys.

amazing spiderman # 1, and amazing spiderman # 3, wre probably the first best 15 issues.

I voted for #3 (biiiiig surprise) but it was a toss-up between that and the unmasking story, which was, yes, wonderfully well-done. B) #3, of course, has the introduction to my favorite Marvel villain and Spidey getting pwned. Mwaha. :woot:

Issue 9... but I think we can all see why.

Aloha,
I agree. The first Spider-Man I read was #18. It will always be my all time favorite. Imagine a super hero running away from a fight because of fears of getting hurt and not being able to take care of his ailing aunt. One of the greatest characters in modern fiction Please feel free to check them all out in the Library.
Spidey rules

For me its like this-

1st- ASM#14

2nd- ASM#12

3rd- ASM#3

This is a nifty idea for a thread. You should do the next 15 (And than so on) a week

Hey that is a good idea, tho it woud require a new poll per week.
That's no biggie.

I'd go with the Lizard:#6!Great issue with a great villain.

I picked #3 with Doc Ock.
# 3 and # 4 were two great issues, i also loved issue # 1, issue # 4 was good because the way they introduced sandman was cool, i voted for issue # 3.

I picked the first Mysterio issue (#13). I read that one as a kid and I loved it.

I also like the issue where Doc Ock unmasks Spidey, the first with the Green Goblin, and Kraven was great too.
