What is the best period piece comic book movie? To count, a movie has to be set earlier then when it was made, Superman I is not a 70s period piece because it was made in 1978.

I really like Wonder Man, X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past and thought they all took advantage of their settings well.

X-Men Apocalyptic was kinda lazy with its setting, it feels like the 80s setting was unnecessary.

Captain America the First Avenger always felt like a Mickey Mouse version of WW2 then the real deal, Hydra goons with laser weapons and Red Skull as a generic megalomaniac then truly vile hate filled Nazi still bug me.

I thought Watchmen was an alright adaption of the comics and did make some good use of the Cold War setting, like the comics did.

There is also the League of Extra Ordinary Gentlemen, but the less said about that the better.

I am likely forgetting some, so feel free to mention others.

As much as I love Wonder Woman, I really enjoyed those first two "First Class" X-Men movies a little more. They were a little more complex and worked. But for me it is splitting hairs if someone likes one more than the other.

For me though it would go:

1. X-Men: First Class (Felt like a '60s Bond movie in its best moments)
2. X-Men: Days of Future Past (Really used the post-Vietnam, early '70s funk well for its story)
3. Wonder Woman (A beautifully told origin story that transcends when it uses WWI so well)
4. Watchmen
5. Captain America: The First Avenger/X-Men: Apocalypse

Don't really care for LXG.

1. Wonder Woman
2. X-Men: Days Of Future Past
3. Captain America: The First Avenger
4. X-Men: First Class
5. Watchmen

Didn't see the other two.

I know it says comic book, but everything seems superhero based. So I'd go with the Incredibles.

Was the Incredibles a period piece? I thought it was set in the present (then 2004).
It is definitely a period piece. They go from the 50s to the 60s/early 70s. The time period isn't made clear, but there are obvious earmarks.

Thought so too.

Is League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on there to be ironic? Because no one is going to vote for it, unless this was a "worst of" poll.

I voted Wonder Woman on the poll, but The Incredibles remains tops.

Of the ones I've seen:

1) Wonder Woman
2) X-Men: Days of Future Past
3) Captain America: The First Avenger
4) Watchmen
5) X-Men: First Class
6) X-Men: Apocalypse

I like DOFP the most out of these movies so I'll go with that one.

Tough choice between WW, FC, DOFP and Watchmen, but had to go with DOFP. One of my top 5 CBMs ever.

1. Wonder Woman
2. X-Men: First Class
3. Captain America: TFA
4. The Road to Perdition
5. Watchmen
6. X-Men: DOFP
7. From Hell
8. The Legend of Tarzan
9. The Shadow
10. Dick Tracy
11. X-Men: Apocalypse
12. XMO: Wolverine
13. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
14. The Phantom

EDIT: Forgot about Tarzan.

1. X-Men Days of Future Past
2. X-Men First Class
3. Captain America The First Avenger
4. Wonder Woman
5. X-Men Apocalypse

The First Class, the most coherent depiction of the time it was set in.

Have a feeling this poll would have different results in 6 months or so.

The newer CBMs always tend to win. I did love WW myself though.

1. Wonder Woman
2. Captain America: The First Avenger
3. Watchmen
4. The Rocketeer
5. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
6. 300

Whilst we are doing rankings:

1) Days Of Future Past
2) Watchmen : DC
3) First Class
4) Wonder Woman
5) The First Avenger
6) Apocalypse
7) League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The Legend of Tarzan (2016), The Lone Ranger(2013) not cbm's ?

Anyway,

1. X-Men: First Class
2. Wonder Woman
3. Captain America: The First Avenger
4. Watchmen
5. Days Of Future Past

I have to rewatch Watchmen but off the top of my head, DoFP.

I still say Captain America: TFA is the best period film and origin film. It's criminally underrated.

The Legend of Tarzan (2016), The Lone Ranger(2013) not cbm's ?

Anyway,

1. X-Men: First Class
2. Wonder Woman
3. Captain America: The First Avenger
4. Watchmen
5. Days Of Future Past

That depends on your definition of "Comic Book Movie". Tarzan and The Lone Ranger were in prose novels and on radio before they were ever in comic books or movies. The movies in the poll all started life in comic books.

I went with Captain America, though Wonder Woman was close. Watchmen in 3rd.
