which is the best? Spiderman all the way!!!

to date the wall crawler

a franchise can't be based on a singular movie

and apart from this, how do we rate 'best'

dvd sales, ticket sales, total gross, quality, adhesion to source material, entertainment etc...?

in all the superman films have had 3 decent films, i can't say the same about the other ones....

i think that the dc films with batman, batman returns and batman begins as well as superman superman 2 and superman returns should in theory take the lead as the better franchises...

however that is only really because they have more of an established filming history than marvel films or at least have more than enough sequels to be able to have 3 decent films to their names, while the marvel films can't and at best only have two films.

So far to date, I'd definitely have to say Spiderman. Batman Begins ushered in what could be a really great franchise down the line, but it only has one movie to draw from. Superman Returns was a complete borefest, and a slap in the face of the character by a director doing an homage for his fetish of the Donner Film.

I wish Daredevil would have had a sequel come out earlier. That could have been a good opportunity to show that it does have legs. X-Men was really good, and since it is doing a spin-off with Wolverine, it is a candidate. However, the various directors take from it, rather than help it. I think Iron Man is going to surprise people in a very good way. Fantastic Four has a lot riding on it depending on how the sequel turns out this summer.

I would also not discount Hellboy. That has a sequel next year, and the first film did quite well overally considering it really didn't have the following that the other mainstream DC/Marvel franchises have had.

The Spider-Man franchise by far. Nolan's Batman franchise has got off to a very good start, but it's too early to judge at this time. Although I sincerely doubt theres much to worry about. But for right now, Spidey has this one won. TMNT, FF, the X-Men spinoffs, and Hellboy are other franchises to look out for in the future.

wolverine spinoff will smell more than he does already

Currently,Spider-Man.But if the dynamics of the movie are tinted,it could change.Fans, myself included..like the actors, and themes present. If that changes,it could break the series.

excuse me TINTED?i don't understand your terminology

i would have to say that batman begins had to be the best superhero movie, with the crow following a close second. a superhero needs to be someone that you could relate to, and even though i liked the siperman movies, and the xmen movies( not the third), i just couldn't see beyond the comic book. in batman begins, i could actually see someone having that kind of reaction to the death of his parents, and the way the movie showed that bruce wayne was alter ego, and that batman was the man running the show, was great. usaully the life of a superhero is a tragic one, but i couldn't see that in spiderman or xmen the way i could in batman.

Oh my god, I have to come in here and set this thread straight.

The best franchise in terms of overall quality in story and accuracy is Batman at the moment. First it was brought back to its dark roots with Burton and then because WB is run by idiots, had to be brought back AGAIN to its dark roots thist time by Nolan. I predict much greatness for Bale's batman if Nolan keeps things on track and not into silly batman territory.

Everyone's humping Spiderman's leg right now since it's popular to do so, but after the hype wears off, people will no longer be blinded to the mediocrity they're being served.

Superman was at the top with Superman 1 and to some extent 2 being the best, but now superman's a dad and his franchise is in a questionable state. Stay tuned for how WB's going to pull their heads out of their asses and fix that franchise after dumping millions on a director who never cared much for the comic book source and based his film mostly on another film. Oy... :wow:

After that are mostly Average Marvel movies, TMNT, and some ones based on graphic novels no one's read. Those range from awful, decent, to good. None i'd say have touched greatness except for Ang Lee's Hulk, which is not a film for everyone because it requires thought. the sequel should be michael bay-esque enough to please all.

We are talking franchise so some of those don't really count. One movie to me does not constitute a franchise. So, in my humble opinion:

1.Batman franchise
2.Superman franchise
3.Spiderman franchise
4.Crow franchise
5.Xmen franchise
6.Blade franchise

*top 3 are that way, 4-6 is debatable as to me they had one to two good movies, and a third one that kindof tanked etc..

How about quality? Eh?

I've said this a million times - accuracy to the source material does not make a film good. Captain America is faithful to the source material. Spawn is faithful to the source material.

The X-Men franchise

In terms of quality control, I agree. The first two movies are great, and XIII is a solid, decent effort.

As for Batman....four great movies, and Batman & Robin.

Spider-Man is okay, Spider-Man 2 is an improvement, but neither stand up to repeat viewings. I'm looking forward to a different director taking hold of this franchise.

I know. I read a lot of your posts and think you're one of the most credible posters on this board... i can't lie to you. The accuracy point is a sticky one...

It's very complicated. STM missed the mark in a lot of ways but hit the mark in the only one it really needed to, which was the man of steel himself being played to near perfection by Reeve.

All I can say is it's complicated. I'm flexible in that, i'm more focused on these comic films capturing the spirit of the source more than being word for word copies like sin city.

Ironically, STM probably features a more definitive Superman origin than anything that's been written in the comics yet.

That's a good way to look at it.

Captain america was faithfull to the origin source? sure, in some wet dream.

In my opinion, the Spider-Man franchise.

In terms of characterization, Maguire's Spider-man/Peter is dead on, as is Aunt May. Other characters are improved or somewhat similar to their comic counterparts. (Ock/Harry respectively.) The movies do a good job of making Peter the main character and not Spider-man which is the important thing.

The storylines stay pretty close to the source material but make substitutions that are more logical or just necessary. (Internal webs for instance.)

I think what a few of the other franchises miss that Spider-man hasn't is the fun and excitement. Sure, the character lends itself more to enjoying itself but it's more satisfying in my opinion.

I liked Burton's Batman and thought Returns was good. But neither was close to the source material. Nolan's Batman, character-wise is much better but I had a lot of issues with Begins that I'm not going to get into here.

But if your definition of 'best' coincides with dollar amounts, then Spider-man has been the most financially successful.

Spider-Man is the best franchise out there right now, IMO.

Batman.

Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman Begins, Batman Mask of the Phantasm...all theatrical releases that can be considered decent to great.

Spider-Man only has 2 films so far that can be considered good, and not to mention there's the fact that spider-man's a fad, which can cloud peoples judgement, not to mention a bias and overgeneralization of the batfilms by many comic fans...but, when you look at it, batman has been the biggest franchise legacy so far. The first three movies were the biggest movies of their respective years. The hype for these movies were something thats never been seen before and has barely been seen again, and in B89's case, has never been seen again.
