  • Avengers 2

Loved 'em both, but I'm gonna vote Avengers because it tried harder, lol.

Star Wars was good and certainly got me hyped, but it was hardly the most inspired teaser. It gave us the title card, a glimpse of the new aesthetic/characters and THAT MUSIC, which is all it needed to give us. But at least Avengers had that rather inspired and creative use of the Pinocchio song.

That said, SW was the definition of a teaser while the AoU one is a full-on trailer, so it's a little weird to compare them.

One was a trailer, the other a teaser. They are different animals.

Can't really compare them. One was a teaser showing us familiar things to get the nostalgia factor going. The other was a full on trailer showing us things fans have only dreamed of up until now.

Both are very effective in their own way though for sure.

Without spoiling much the Avengers trailer gives a glimpse at a thematic angle of the movie.

The Star Wars trailer was very much a matter of "This Exists. Begin Pavlovian Response Now."

not really comparable at all. both succeed with what they were trying to do.

I'm sorry but how can anyone call Star Wars 7 a good trailer? It's nothing more than giving you nostalgia, it doesn't tell you anything, except: hey kids, everything you loved it is here, so by default, it must be good?

God I hate this "nostalgia dribble". You could say the same about anything that you've liked for a long time. You could say the same damn thing about Avengers, "Hey kids look all the heroes you liked as a kid in one room".

Give me a break. The exact same thing can be said about any trailer of any series. Some seem to overuse "nostalgia". It was a great trailer, but as someone said these are two different beasts. One is just a teaser and one is a full fledged trailer.

you're obviously under 30. you wouldn't understand. just think about your emotional reaction to a 1 min teaser of your favorite pokemon card/powerranger/spice girl/whatever you kids liked in the 90ies

Star wars 7 was a teaser not a trailer. Avengers 2 was a full trailer. Not Fair. Wait untill the first full trailer is released in May to compare. :oldrazz:

One was a teaser and the other a proper trailer. Can't compare.

Avengers 2, easily. It gave us a great voiceover that leaves no doubt that it is indeed the villain speaking, and showcases scenes which bear his predictions out while our heroes are struggling on pretty much all fronts, while also introducing at least two of the new characters in the mix.

The Star Wars trailer, on the other hand, got exactly this reaction out of me: "Hnh, more funny-looking troopers. Hnh, another funny-looking droid. Hnh, another funny-looking lightsaber. Hn-wait, what? The Falcon? Cool! December 2015? Hnh." So the only part of the trailer I gave a crap about was the part that showed up just in time for the end of the trailer.

A more fair comparison would be Star Wars vs Jurassic World. Those are both teasers that rely on nostalgia.

As does Avengers. Nostalgia is love for something you have had in the past. Again I think many confuse nostalgia with actual love for a universe and its characters. Like comics that have been around for decades. Saying Jurassic World and SW relies on it you have to turn just as equally to Avengers. Which really relies on the so called term nostalgia of having all these characters fight together.

So again I think it's interesting that a sequel that relies on things from the past films or stories like Avengers is not seen as such but SW and Jurassic World are. Nostalgia is different from genuine love of a character and or universe. Just like the majority on here that worship some comic book hero or another.

I think the point people are making with "nostalgia" is the SW trailer basically traded on:
Stormtroopers-Kewl!
X-Wings - Kewl!
Millennium Falcon-Kewl!
Funky new Lightsaber- Kewl!
We learned nothing about the film.

It was just a bunch of random images for the sole purpose of saying "In case you've been living in a cave- yeah- Star Wars movie."

Both films wrapped, but Avengers still managed to give some story content.

Yes heavy known elements in the world of SW. This is a teaser trailer, a year before the film comes out. Avengers comes out in some places in around 5 months. A huge difference. Avengers is almost done with post as well, where as SW still has a year away.

There is a difference between nostalgia and iconic things in a universe that people love. The first Teaser of Ulton could be said the same with Ultron's mask and showing the iconic shield of Captain America, Thor's hammer, Iron Man's suit, Hulk himself etc. Avengers relies on these markers of things that are well known and loved in their universe too. It is no difference.

Yes it is unfair to compare these trailers because one is a film almost done that is coming out in 5 months while the other still has over a year to go. Year prior teasers give very little, looking at many of them from the past they rarely do. Just like all of Nolan's year prior teasers. These ones are just suppose to tease what's to come not tell the story.

Avengers gave me a bit more to get excited for, and it still didn't play its entire hand. Star Wars was solid also though, and I really appreciated that they didn't rely on the old cast/nostalgia to sell us on the movie. Looking forward to both.

SW 7 didn't need completed FX to give us some kind of direction for the story.

What we got was basically the live action equivalent of an issue of Star Wars Insider circa 1998.

Nope, because Avengers 2 trailer gives you the general direction of the story, the central theme, the setting, the stars of the movie, etc.

Star Wars gave us a glimpse of 2-3 characters, storm troopers, new R2D2 type character and the Millenium Falcon with those X-wings. It didn't show us the story, the central theme, space, and barely the stars.

Doesn't mean the trailer would be good. :) Nostalgia factor < Good trailer that provides information

I wasn't even that thrilled with the Falcon TBH.After all the ******* about CGI in the PT,they trot out that clip? What happened to all the "practical FX" that were promised? I did like the X wings, though.

Yes and again that is not a fair comparison. A fair one would be the first teaser released of Avengers during SDCC or whatever of everything forming into Ultron. Teasers of this nature don't give story...the film is a whole year away. TDK, Inception, TDKR, Interstellar had trailers like these, they don't tell you anything about the story, just give hints. This gives a small hint in SW of what is going to happen in some regards but it is cryptic. And again it's not just nostalgia, because we could again say that about any comic book trailer. It shows brief scenes as many trailers that are released a year prior do. They give almost nothing. Hence a teaser.

The CGI looked fine. The CGI complaint is more superficial and brought to light by PT fans. It was not the core fundamental problem with the PT that most had, there is CGI in beloved films like Avengers etc. The problem with the PT was it was terrible writing and directing. No one is against CGI, and the few that are will hate 99% of movies out there then. We all knew it would be a mixture of both. That and again the film is still a year off from finishing these shots. Most trailers in the past even 6 months prior show a massive change in the final shot from the trailer.
