With regard to the sheer quantity and quality, 2008 just cannot be beat. Heck, '08 may overall be my favorite year at the movies...ever. Iron Man and Incredible Hulk were both great and TDK may be the greatest comic book superhero movie ever made. That makes for a hard year to beat. Sure, Punisher WZ was highly disapointing, and I didn't particularly care for Wanted. I didn't see Hellboy 2 or The Spirit yet...but despite the disapointments, the highlights were so high that it still holds it's spot.
2nd place for me would have to be '03 for sheer hype value. I remember coming off of 2002 and Spider-man, which I loved, and realizing that '03 would hold Daredevil, X2 and Hulk. I was so incredibly excited that year because it was like a whole new world of movies was finally catching on..one that I had waited for since I read comics as a kid. Sure, not all of those turned out to be all that they could be, but I remember starting out that year so excited for what the future was holding.
We'll see what '09 and beyond holds. With Marvel's double shot summer treatment, we've got some fun ahead of us, but it will have to be something special to touch this year.
I'm also glad to see the originator of this poll clocked the timeline back to 1978, presumably to mark Superman: The Movie. That in itself is an important year for as it was the first of what would be the modern superhero movies. In fact, until TDK, I would say it was the greatest movie of the genre. That just further proves how significant TDK was.
