Well now that The Spirit has finally arrived, there are no more superhero/comic book films left for this year. So I feel that 2008 is now open for true comparison with other years gone by. So what year do you think was the best ever for this genre and why?

My vote goes to 2008 as the best ever. IM, TIH & TDK alone assure that. Even Punisher:WZ tanking couldn't take the shine off.

So go ahead and vote.

ya, has to be 2008. Dark knight, iron man, the new hulk, hellboy 2, punisher war zone, & I haven't caught the spirit yet. But visually it looks stunning & I love frank miller. I won't include Wanted only because i wasn't crazy about the graphic novel to begin with.:bh:

The collective quality of what we had this summer hasn't been approached before. I don't think it'll be rivaled anytime soon.

Not that I would mind that happening.

2005 Batman Begins and Sin City..then again 2008 Dark Knight/iron Man...

2008 by a long margin.

With regard to the sheer quantity and quality, 2008 just cannot be beat. Heck, '08 may overall be my favorite year at the movies...ever. Iron Man and Incredible Hulk were both great and TDK may be the greatest comic book superhero movie ever made. That makes for a hard year to beat. Sure, Punisher WZ was highly disapointing, and I didn't particularly care for Wanted. I didn't see Hellboy 2 or The Spirit yet...but despite the disapointments, the highlights were so high that it still holds it's spot.

2nd place for me would have to be '03 for sheer hype value. I remember coming off of 2002 and Spider-man, which I loved, and realizing that '03 would hold Daredevil, X2 and Hulk. I was so incredibly excited that year because it was like a whole new world of movies was finally catching on..one that I had waited for since I read comics as a kid. Sure, not all of those turned out to be all that they could be, but I remember starting out that year so excited for what the future was holding.

We'll see what '09 and beyond holds. With Marvel's double shot summer treatment, we've got some fun ahead of us, but it will have to be something special to touch this year.

I'm also glad to see the originator of this poll clocked the timeline back to 1978, presumably to mark Superman: The Movie. That in itself is an important year for as it was the first of what would be the modern superhero movies. In fact, until TDK, I would say it was the greatest movie of the genre. That just further proves how significant TDK was.

2008, hands down. You had the one-two punch of "The Dark Knight" and "Iron Man", and other great stuff like "The Incredible Hulk" and "Hellboy II". All that and the "Watchmen" trailer made for a spectacular year for comic book movies.

Oh no! Long-ass poll! But no, really, interesting thread. I voted 2008.

It has to be 2008, TDK, Hellboy 2, Iron Man, TIH (in that order as well) not to mention Hancock which I really enjoyed, great year for CB movies, havent seen Punisher or Spirit yet.

But runner up is definately 2003, like CO2 said, X2 and Hulk are still 2 of my favourite comic book movies ever, and I liked Daredevil also, especially the DC.

I have a sentimental attachment to 2002. Spider-Man and Blade 2 were so awesome. I also liked 1989 with Batman-which became a juggernaut, an event, perhaps the first event movie I can remember.

But for sheer volume and success of major comic book films-and Hancock, and the prestige of TDK and Iron Man, I think 2008 is the winner.

I hav sentimental attachment to 2000...I chose 2000...not just for films but for everything that was happening at the time...

what was that?
X-men is the only one I can think of that hit 2000. Is that why?

'89 is actually a good choice too only because Batmania was C-R-A-Z-Y. I feel sorry for Batman fans that weren't around back then. That did a lot for comics. I think that may have been a big part of the comic boom that hit in the early 90's...but we all know what happened by mid 90's. The bottom fell out completely. Things seem to have turned around with this new generation of movies though and comics characters are the now the big time action movie heros.

there hasn't been a year with so many to look forward to . i also enjoyed every comic film with the exception of hancock and spirit but even those two are decent .
tdk , im , tih , hb2 , pw are all among my favorites.

As we are still in the wake of "Dark Knight" hype, I feel this poll is a bit slanted.

How many comic book movies are coming out next year? I can only think of two right now :o

Yeah, Watchmen and Wolverine. Just the two W's as far as I'm aware of.
When does Red Sonja come out?
Some people might consider Transformers and G.I. Joe comic book movies. The movies may be based on elements of the comics, but the toys came first so I don't consider them such.
