So I re-watched "Superman Returns" yesterday, first time in about 2 or 3 years. I've been re-watching all of "Smallville" and felt the urge to actually see Superman flying around and junk after 8 seasons (thus far) of Clark Kent super-speeding in civilian clothes.

I've never been a big fan of 'Returns' for it's obvious flaws. I'm glad they are not making a sequel of such and have instead gone with a reboot, as truly the Reeve/Donner era is done and over with; let it rest.

That said, I've got to admit; this film is a bit better than I remembered it to be.

The score was pretty good. The special effects as well. Routh wasn't the best Superman, but he wasn't the worst either. I mean, it is far from perfect and has too many flaws to ever declare it "good" or a "success" in my opinion, but I guess I've come to accept the film for what good attributes it had. Bosworth's Lane is atrocious. Marsden's role in the film is a junky as ever. The illegitimate off-spring plot is still blah. But otherwise... not as bad.

Have to say, the entire airplane action sequence is certainly the best (to date) live action superman action sequence ever done - to date. Hopefully "Man of Steel" will be full of good scenes that trump such, but until we see such, that scene there really does take the cake. "Smallville" always cheated us out of epic action due to budgetary reasons. "Lois & Clark" was done on a TV budget as well. The Reeve films where simply not as technically capable, though they did well for their day. I think if the film had been a lot more like that 10 (?) minute sequence, we'd have been better off.

I dunno, maybe it's with "Smallville" over, or with "Man of Steel" in production, but... I just don't dislike "Returns" as much as I used to.

Anyone else find their opinion of the film has softened as such?

That scene is incredible, I think any superhero film would have a job topping that scene.

As far as the film, I have to be in the mood for it I like it despite its flaws.
