Beyonce and Colin Farrell lead all-star cast in....Fox's Epic

The title is Epic :awesome:.

I understand why the comedic beats were in the trailer, but it ruins the tone for childish pandering. Listen I like the funny sidekick troupe IF it works well so I'm not just hating.

Otherwise I liked the trailer.

They really had me until some of the characters opened their mouths.

...and they said Ant-Man couldn't be done

That looked alright to me. The only thing that troubles me is that Pitbull is listed in the cast....

What I don't understand is the reliance on celebrity voices when they're never credited in the trailers nor in the beginning of the film(s). (Since opening credits are a rare thing these days).

Pittbull doesn't have a unique voice. I like Aziz, but he too doesn't have a distinct voice. Why have them? It's so weird. If not, get actors with distinct voices like Bill Murray or whatever.

At least with Pixar, Tom Hanks, Billy Crystal, etc add a lot to the roles even with their normal speaking voices. Maybe it's due to the writing and directing.

I can already hear that gut wrenching musical number that sounds exactly like every one of Pitbull's songs.

And the sad thing is that Epic could have been a movie that moves away from 'pop culture' and topical stuff, and make it "Studio Ghibli' timeless. It's a formula that's getting stale and the only films that worked with that stuff were 'Kung-Fu Panda' and 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' due to the great writing.

Loved 90% of the trailer, due in large part to the Snow Patrol song. The other 10% (the attempts at humor) were awful.

When the slug said 'dude' I was like 'Really..you're down that route?'

They should have pulled 'Rise of the Guardians' and just make it a short, but poetic teaser.

Before clicking that link, I just read your comment and thought Beyonce was starring in a movie telling the story of Jesus Christ.

I'm glad I was wrong, because Beyonce as the Virgin Mary? No.

Not gonna bother watching the trailer because Blue Sky has a terrible track record. The first Ice Age was good, but every other one was terrible, Robots was boring as hell, Horton Hears a Who! was awful. Why does FOX stick with these guys? Do they really think they're as good as Pixar?

They make money.

To e honest you should check out the trailer. The first half isn't bad at all.

I read somewhere that Robin Williams being in Aladdin opened up a can of worms with that since Hollywood just looked at the concept of a known actor in the film rather the the character being written well and the actor having good voice acting skill. I assume Tom Hanks and Tim Allen did it for CGI films.

Toy Story did kind of start that, but ironically they've gotten away from that with most films, sans the couple where they have well knowns in the roles, like Cars and Monsters Inc.

And they don't really advertise the known actors except for initially (maybe) and if it's a sequel, just the new characters.

Up was probably the best example of that. Casting Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer and some unknown Asian kid as your three leads would feel like box office suicide anywhere else.

And you look at the new Ice Age, they make it known that Jennifer Lopez, Drake, and Nicki Minaj are in it.

Haha, that whole lineup kind of made me cringe a little. Keke Palmer, J.Lo, Drake, and Minaj. They're obviously trying to hit some kind of demographic there, and ain't being subtle about it.

And their respective characters look kinda like them. A lot like what was one with Shark Tale.

What was that Snow Patrol song called? It really made the trailer for me.

It's called "What if the storm ends?"
