Mei's slim waistline is a bug, Overwatch team says

January 25, 2017 71 Comments

If you're a big fan of Overwatch's Mei, you might have noticed that following yesterday's big Lunar New Year patch, Mei's Chinese New Year-themed skins didn't quite match her regular body. Blizzard, however, has said this is just a bug.
"There's a bug with Mei's Luna and Chang'e skins right now that's causing her waist to appear much smaller than normal. We've already fixed the bug internally, but it's going to require a patch to implement (ideally it'll be included in whatever next patch hits your gaming platform). Thanks for the quick reports, btw. And happy Lunar New Year!"
Kotaku, which brought mainstream attention to the issue, suggested that the skin "would upset people who identified with the character because of this," but come on. I adore Mei and love that she exists, and even I know the uproar is mostly just about pr0n.
The Year of the Rooster event runs through February 13th.

I believe it happens when you use a certain ability (i.e. Reaper's Wraith Form/Shadow Step) which causes you to drop the flag. I guess they did this to make it more balanced.

Still, loving Capture the Rooster. Really hoping in time they implement a permanent CTF mode in arcade mode.

I love the year of the rooster update. I hate that they've added so many player icons to the loot boxes as it makes it harder to get skins, which I'm sure they know.

Overwatch team lobbies against using a mouse and keyboard on its console versions

February 7, 2017 31 comments

If everyone can't have it, no one should. That's the stance that Blizzard is taking when it comes to using a mouse and keyboard to play Overwatch on consoles, as those players presumably have a huge advantage over controller users in response time and precise action.

On the official forums, Game Director Jeff Kaplan wrote a terse post a few days ago stating the studio's position:

"The Overwatch team objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on console. We have contacted both first-party console manufacturers and expressed our concern about the use of mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices. We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices or openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for ALL players."

As Kaplan points out, there is no official support for keyboards and mice on these consoles yet, although that hasn't stopped some from figuring out a workaround. VG247 notes that many of the top players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 use a mouse-and-keyboard setup via special converters.Read more
