We've moved from "officers on the scene are complicit from not speaking out because they knew there was no gun" to "there was a gun, but it was a mile away" which is obvious hyperbole that means nothing.

Let me make it clear, so you can stop playing your little semantics game. There is no relevant gun to suggest there was an armed confrontation. There could be 10 guns there, but if none are in his hands when he is shot, it is irrelevant. The child threw the gun away and lifted his hands like the cop asked him to. And then he shot him in the chest. The other officers saw the child lying on the ground. They know his location. They know the location of the gun. What relevance is the gun's presence to the child being murdered?

What you just pointed emphasizes just how much they are trying to cover for the murdering cop. You know the one who told the kid to lift his hands and then shot him for doing it?

The officer instructs Adam to show his hands. Adam pivots toward the officer and is shot once in the chest. Police say there was less than a second from the time the gun was in Adam’s hand to the fatal shot.

Progress is happening. Chauvin is hopefully going to jail. The officer who shot Daunte Wright was charged within days of her shooting him. Various laws are being passed or repealed. It is going to take time and a whole lot of hard effort. I mean, even when the Supreme Court said stop and frisk was unconstitutional, a NY mayoral candidate is still advocating for its return.

And the culture will be the toughest thing to change, especially when you are looking at these enormous departments, that in actuality, are more like gangs. We are going to have another summer of protests. With the cops rioting in return. It is going to take a lot of literal blood to enact change.

Not saying that any of the progress that has happened is acceptable. It is not, because it is far, far too little. But the mere fact that a lot of the reform minded DA's that have been elected are having fights to change is a sign that people realize things must change.

And yes, the changes will come far too slow to save far too many lives.

I hate to be the naysayer but my take on seeing the video from both perspectives on that Chicago shooting is that the officer didn't do anything wrong. Yes, the kid tossed the gun, but he did it behind that stockade fence where the officer couldn't see. It looks to me as though the boy was shot at the same time he was turning to face the officer. The cop did not have the time to see those empty hands. That was my take on it anyhow. Still sucks, but it wasn't the same as other recent killings.

He did not know if the kid was armed or not, meaning he fired without knowing if there was a threat, which there clearly was not. Cops are supposed to be trained better than this. You don't shoot someone unless you know they are a threat.

The still shot of the kid with his hands empty was taken as the kid was turning to face the cop. It was too fast. The cop could just as easily been shot himself if he had waited to see if the hands were empty. The cop doesn't have to wait until he is fired upon to shoot. The whole thing just happened so fast. This wasn't an unwarranted traffic stop. They were chasing someone who had fired a weapon.

That's sort of the point. It was too fast. He shot almost instantly after the words left his mouth. He did not give the kid a chance to comply. And he was clearly shot facing the officer, both hands above his head. Clearly empty. Also, the mentality that the officer should not have to risk their life is bull****. Anything is justified as long as the officer fears for their life.

And another thing, they were chasing who they think shot the gun they were called in for.

We were down this road deep enough when so very many people in the world decided that the best use of their time was defending until the end the murder of a sixteen year old armed with candy.

But I guess the real dangers were the three years junior set.

And I will guess the same types that would defend the Martin murder are gonna give it the old college try in making the gunning down of a 13 year old seem not that big a deal.

I have no words.

I mean.....I don’t think he said anything incorrect. A 13 year old with a gun can shoot someone as easily as anyone else, and all he said was to wait for the facts of the case. These should be taken on a case by case basis. Sometimes the outrage is warranted, and sometimes it isn’t, but the atmosphere is so charged (understandably) that there’s no more room for any nuance or grey area.

Facts that will somehow make it okay to shoot an unarmed 13 year old because a cop was far too quick in pulling the trigger? Particularly because it is once again a victim who is black? And yet we see cops manage to apprehend all kinds of armed white men without doing so fatally.

I'm sure the cop is devestated about it. He's having a hard time comprehending he killed a kid but imagine that kids family. Cops are way too fast to pull a gun and shoot. We see it time after time after time. Even when they "mean to use a taser" they somehow manage to find their finger on the trigger of a gun.

Defending this and pointing at a 13 year old kid as responsible keeps putting the blame on the victim. The shooting of Daunte Wright was his fault even though he was unarmed because he ran from the cops who have a problem pulling over and shooting people who look like him over a damned hanging air fresher.

George Floyd was at fault because he resisted arrest and then kept resisting when a cop was literally choking him to death with his knee.

Breonna Taylor was at fault because she was asleep in the wrong (her) house for a drug bust by cops who shot first and did not even bother to find out the suspect they were looking for was already arrested.

The cop who shot Jacob Blake and paralyzed him? Back to work, no charges despite there being no threat.

The list of people at fault for the cops mistake is a long one and these are only from the last year. And I am missing a lot more names that could go there.

How many times are we going to say it was a bad call, that the cop made a mistake, that someone who died for no reason is tragic but it was probably their fault for putting themselves in that situation? How many times are cops just going to get a free pass to go back out on the streets making those same mistakes time and time again?

It's going to keep on happening until the police are reformed, retrained and held accountable.

So what you are saying is the kid did exactly what the cop asked him to do, and then he shot him anyways.
