But in a day and age when people feel compelled to share their most intimate thoughts and dreams via Twitter, even bottom-of-the-roster types have their own Web sites. Take
Danny Ware of the
New York Giants for instance. I actually think he might have a bright future as a reserve running back in the league, but if all else fails, maybe he could find an NFL blog network to write for. Here's what Ware had to say about the Giants drafting NC State running back
Andre Brown in the fourth round:
We used a 4th round pick to take a running back. Naturally, guys are going to worry about their jobs and some guys will be on edge. It doesn't put a scare into me because I know I go out there and work hard every day. It's going to be a while before he can get carries, he has to learn the offense and it will take him a little while. But I heard he's pretty good.
Listen, this is a business, but I'll help the guy out because we're here to win and we're a team. But I'm also competing with him. I feel like I can replace
Derrick Ward all day every day, they don't have to bring in someone else to get those carries. So it's kind of hard knowing that they used a fourth round pick on a back and they're probably going to have to give him some playing time.
I wasn't drafted out of Georgia, and that kind of put me in a tailspin at the time. But I figured that if I just got on a team and got the chance I could prove that I belonged. Now I'm just trying to take that next step and show I deserve to get carries.
Special teams really isn't my thing but I'll do whatever the team asks me to do. I feel I'm a natural runner with good vision, good power and good speed with the ability to pick up the blitz. But it was hard to prove myself last year because we had three backs who were all so good. All I can say to you fans is keep an eye on me. I'm coming.
Ware says "it's going to be a while" before Brown starts getting carries, but he's not really in a position to make that decision. If Derrick Ward had been on the roster, I don't think there's any way the Giants take Brown in the fourth round. They found
Ahmad Bradshaw in the seventh round in 2007 and Ward was a seventh-round pick by the Jets in 2004. I think Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese believe Brown can come in and challenge for the backup role behind
Brandon Jacobs. And while I admire Ware's confidence, I think he's being naive to think the Giants won't throw Brown into the mix early.
But if Ware
does replace Ward, he doesn't want to be known as "Wind." Most of you know the combination of Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw have been known as "Earth, Wind and Fire." Ware would like to be known as "Water," which makes total sense once you read his explanation:
H2O is one of the most important resources known to man. I transform whenever my environment changes. When it's hot, I'm in my liquid form and can move through any boundary. When it's cold I freeze and turn to ice. And once I get rolling, nothing can stop me.
If it ever gets too hot, I evaporate, and it's like I'm running on the clouds. But I never disappear because when it rains, it pours!
