Blu-Ray versus Upscaling DVD Player

The blu-ray is unnecessary if your TV only goes as high as 720p.

That's ridiculous. My TV only goes to 720p and I could NEVER go back to DVD or even upscaled DVD. There's TONS of difference still.

I'm with imdaly here on this. there is a huge difference between watching a DVD and a bluray, even in 720p. I bought a 42" 1080p for home in Dec 07 and just bought a 32" 720p as my mobile hdtv for when I'm moving around to different apartments throughout the school year. That's what I was willing to do for blu-ray quality. I've actually started converting my DVDs to blurays because of the difference. Of course, that's a personal choice and not everyone has to follow suit, but there's a big difference between watching the godfather, batman begins, and goodfellas on bluray.

Kind of sounds like you'd already made up your mind to go with the upscaling DVD player and just started this thread because you wanted everybody to tell you you were making the right choice. Honestly though, Blu-Ray is better.

Um, no. I honestly wanted to hear everyone's thoughts, it took me more than 2 weeks after the start of this thread to actually buy the upscaling DVD player. And the choice came down more to an economic one than a quality one. I'll be getting a Blu-Ray player once they go down in price, which all analysts say will be in the next 6 months.

If someone can answer those questions.

What s the difference between a DVD player that can take 1080p and a Blu ray player?

I remember for DVD good quality its 700mb and more. with blu ray I have no idea i see 2G,4G, 8G even 12G! So what is the standard size in terms of gigabytes for a Blu ray movie?

I know now how it works for tv. But what about monitor? Do I need HD monitor to enjoy full 1080p?

I have a 22inch lcd dell monitor. Is 1080p to much for my monitor?
