Deadline understands the animated series will build on the movie, developed under DC Studios’ previous regime, but will divert from telling the same story. Instead, the show will create its own story which, in success, could potentially lead to a return to the big screen for the giant blue bug portrayed by Xolo Maridueña, I hear.
I mean… is it completely inconceivable to imagine they have more animation in development than just this series? And still no Wonder Woman animated series?
Yet people still want to say "Gunn said he was working on making it happen"

Beyond excited that James Gunn stood by his word and is keeping Blue Beetle!
As a Latino, seeing a Latino superhero on the silver screen was amazing.
Wasn't his word that Blue Beetle was supposed to be in the Superman movie?
Building off the movie makes no sense. It makes no sense that James Gunn is picking and choosing from the previous DCEU and keeping certain actors films but jettisoning others.

While I do think that a clean sweep would've been better with no prior actors returning, I think an exception for Blue Beetle can be made because it really has no ties to the DCEU or even the DCU (as of now). Characters like Batman and The Flash are mentioned, but never seen. It's more just a...DC film rather than fitting into any shared universe, which would give Gunn the leeway to retroactively fit Blue Beetle into the DCU.Building off the movie makes no sense. In the grand scheme of things, the movie's story is pretty self-contained with no real ties to the greater world, so I think if you had to bring any character into the DCU, Blue Beetle at least makes sense. Believe me, I'm all for Gunn not having anyone from the prior universe return, as good as they may have been in their roles, but Blue Beetle is practically on an island as far as where it fits that he could be folded into the DCU and no one would bat an eye.
How so?Except his movie bombed. And I'd say a significant blame for that can be laid at James Gunn's feet.
How so?
There was a writers/actors strike.
Subpar advertising
A C-list character
DC bombing left and right in film
All the while the movie was actually a fun film.
