Bohemian Rhapsody

I don't think the band is comfortable with prying too deep into Freddie's life when he isn't here to defend himself/comment. But that's just speculation on my part.

I like Cohen, but his casting in this always felt off to me, even if there is a bit of a resemblance.

Just cast Luke Spiller whenever he's on a break from touring. He looks and sounds just like Freddie. I know he's a musician and not an actor but hell... If Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake can make the jump to acting, anyone can.

I missed the news but is this movie happening or not?

Also whats the update on the Elton John film? Have they released any images yet?

From what I have read, the remaining members of Queen and Cohen did not agree on the direction of the movie.
Cohen wanted a good portion of it to focus on Freddie including how he died.
The band did not want that and wanted every one to have an equal part in it.

Rami Malek is playing Freddie Mercury

He looks like such a boy compared Freddy

Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Helluva lot more grown up than Whishaw.

so bryan singer is directing according to deadline very interesting this is the first straight character driven drama film he has done since usual suspects

i am very intrigued

I'll believe it when I see it.

Also I'm pretty wary of Singer.
Other than DoFP his theatrical output hasn't been that good recently. Honestly since X2.
Valkyrie, Superman Returns, Jack the Giant Slayer...other than my own opinion of X-Men Apocalypse, he's not making AWFUL films just not very good ones

Valkyrie

Only one person should be doing this... the singer MIKA - go look at him, how he moves...listen to him sing his homage in Grace Kelly. Would be awesome

Happy they got Singer, but I'm not sure if Malek has the... bravado and physique to be playing Freddie.

Love this choice. Thrilled by this news, actually.

Can Whishaw play Brian May, now?

I hope they do a scene of the infamous Saturday Night In Sodom party at The Fairmont in New Orleans.

As they enter the hotel, guests are greeted by a troupe of hermaphrodite dwarves serving cocaine from trays strapped to their heads; the coke has been specially imported from Bolivia and quality-checked by Mercury.

Fortified by “lines of marching powder as long and as thick as your grandmother’s arm”, the guests are free to choose from a menu of exotic diversions. The hotel ballrooms, made up to resemble labyrinthine jungle swamps, are swarming with magicians, Zulu tribesmen, contortionists, fire-eaters, drag queens and transsexual strippers. Drinks are served by naked waiters and waitresses who politely request that any tips are placed not on trays but in bodily crevices. Naked dancers cavort in bamboo cages suspended from ballroom ceilings. Nude models of both sexes wrestle in huge baths of shimmering, uncooked liver, while 300lb Samoan women lounge on banquet tables, smoking cigarettes from various orifices. As a bonus, visitors to the hotel’s grand marble bathrooms are serviced by prostitutes of both sexes.

How much of what went on at the party is true is much disputed but everyone that was there agrees there was some biblical debauchery going on that night. Freddie Mercury was famously shy but he partied like a mad man. Even Elton John at his Cocaine fueled peak said he couldn't hang with Mercury.

So is he singing like it's a full blown musical? Or just singing here and there like Jamie Foxx in Ray

It's a shame Sasha Baron Cohen couldn't do this. I think it would have been a game changing role for his career.

We do know we'll be getting a watered down version of Freddie's story as that was the reason Cohen left due to disagreements with the remaining members over what the film would portray of Freddie.

Rami is a pretty good actor.

Anyway the wind blows...

From what I could infer, S.B. Cohen wanted to focus on all the debauchery Freddie was involved in & the rest of Queen said no.
Which made me think 2 things : 1) were they trying to protect Freddie? Its not like we don't know what he was involved with.
2) Who gives them the right to just say no?
Its not their life to have total control over. I would think Freddie's estate should have final say.

If they're producing the movie they have every right to say no.

I'd prefer to not see a biopic at all, than to see a glossed over squeaky clean one. The best ones are the most truthful biopics.
