Bohemian Rhapsody

The nicest thing was coming out of the movie behind a family and the Dad asked his son (who must have been no more than 10 years old) if he liked the movie and the kid's face lit up and he said he loved it.
 
Hope amongst all is their 'rift' over studio space with the Sex Pistols. Freddie refers to Johnny Rotten as Mr Ferocious.
 
Saw this 2 days ago.

We loved it. Me and my partner are huge fans of Queen - this film had everything we've ever wanted from a film about Freddie and his band. Heart, good acting, good cinematography and being able to listen to Queen's best songs with loud cinema sound. I actually regret we didn't do a trip to IMAX, would've been glorious!

My only nitpick is how weird the editing was in the first 1/3 of the film. Fast and constant cuts during dialogues. But that's about it.

And I had legit goosebumps during the Live Aid part. Rami completely nailed that bit! From the moment he had his hair cut, he really started to adapt Freddie's mannerisms.

So happy you enjoyed it! I haven't actually spoken to one person who didn't love it so I'm really surprised by the critics reaction.

My favourite part was literally a 5 second scene...
before Freddie goes to the hospital to confirm his AIDS diagnosis and he's in his house alone sat at the kitchen table reading the newspaper with his cat... Rami was able to convey his loneliness in that moment so well. I wanted to reach through the screen and hug him. Also adding "who wants to live forever" over those scenes just nailed it for me and I must say that's when I shed a tear

And yes the Live Aid scene at the end was immense. They captured the energy so well. Very brave of them to show the whole thing.
 
Went to an early showing last night. Tremendous film. Brilliantly acted by everyone involved. The first half of the film does feel oddly edited as others have said and moves extremely quick. But I was never bored with this film at all. Now here's where I differ from a lot of people who have reviewed the film. I was not at all impressed by the Live Aid part of the film. The crowd, the atmosphere, the other members of the band, that was all perfect and brilliantly done, but Rami doing Freddie's moves on stage was horrific. I have no idea why people say Rami nailed it, he didn't. He was extremely stiff in his movements, as though he was embarrassed to go full Freddie or simply didn't know how. As someone who has watched that Live Aid performance hundreds of times and absolutely loved and studied every little move Freddie did I was completely taken out of the performance at the end because of that. Other than that ending this movie was flawless to me. Rami did Freddie justice in every other way. I was gonna give the movie a perfect score but the Live Aid performance knocks it down a notch. So I'll give it a 9/10. Still massively blown away by this film and Rami deserves that best actor award.

I still couldn’t be more excited for this.

I love Queen. I love the entire band and the music. It’s brought me so much happiness over the last 2+ decades of my life. A film that is just as gorgeous and celebratory as their music is honestly all I want.

Queen makes me feel good. I don’t need a “DARK” or “GRITTY” story. I need to feel inspired and uplifted. It needs to be lush and operatic. That’s what it sounds like we’re getting.

I am seeing this and Nutcracker on Saturday. Nutcracker at 11:45 and this at 2:30. A-listing them both, LOL! I am seeing this one second mainly because the early times for the movie were less convenient.
 
SO basically Bryan Singer is a jerk to work for and was hardly showing up on set even though he won the gig (and the approval of the Queen members) by his utter passion for Freddie Mercury.

Is that Esquire article still coming?

There is being a jerk, and then there is being completely unprofessional, to the point that you get fired midway through a film. It sounds like he doesn't do the job he is paid to do at all. Days of him not even filming. His cinematography doing it instead.

No reason to think it isn't.
 
So should this still be considered his film?
 
The DGA says yes, so yes.
 
He still made the decisions. And I don’t believe he left halfway, more towards the end. I’m sure he had the thing storyboarded from the beginning.

And despite all this, he just signed a high paying gig for Red Sonja.

8.4/10 on IMDB. It definitely seems to be tracking well with audiences. I personally don't understand the negative reaction from critics. I suppose you can't please everyone.
 
It hasn’t opened yet to most audiences. Next weekend will give us a better idea.

Critics judging from their comments seem to feel it is too formulaic and was not much outside of being a Queen nostalgia trip. That should track well for Queen fans and the general audience, but I can understand their point. Granted, I haven't seen it yet. But I get the viewpoint.
 
Saw this movie last night and I have to say that it absolutely rocked! I loved this film, I have some minor issues with it but it's really the history of queen told through Freddy's eyes. The acting is fantastic, the music is great (as expected) and there's a lot of it, and the LIVE AID performance at the end really brings home why Freddy is considered the greatest performer ever, such a great time and the film leaves you on the highest of highs. Such an amazing film and quite possibly the first film I see this year more than once in a theater.
 
We only just got it today.
 
IMDB is the gold star for judgment of general reaction to a movie. :o
