BR actually increased from last weekend in the OS markets (+3%) :eek:

BR is pretty much guaranteed to get into the top 50 Int'l grosser of all time with 600m+ :eek:

BR will also beat Independence Day to become 20th Century Fox's 6th highest grossing movie of all time :eek: BR will probably have ROTS (#5) in it's sight if it continues to hold like this.
 
I enjoyed this movie but I did have some problems with it. It jumps forward in time a lot, skipping moments I would've liked to see.

For example: Freddie meets the band, next scene it's their first performance already, then after that it's "one year later.." It all seemed to be going too easy for them, and things like that happen throughout the movie.

Also, I wanted to see more of his relationship with Mary. He kept on saying how important she was to him, but they didn't really show it. Because of the time jumps, you couldn't see their relationship develop.

But I guess you could argue that the movie is mainly about Queen, and it's not supposed to be a "Freddie biopic."
 
Bryan Singer Hit With Fresh Allegations of Sex With Underage Boys

Bryan Singer, the director of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” is facing new allegations published in the Atlantic on Wednesday that he engaged in sexual misconduct with underage boys.

In the report, four men allege that Singer had sexual encounters with them when they were teenagers in the late 1990s. One of the men, Victor Valdovinos, says he was a 13-year-old extra on the set of “Apt Pupil” when Singer fondled his genitals.

The three other accusers are identified in the story by pseudonyms. One, identified in the story as Andy, says that he had sex with Singer when he was 15. Another man, identified as Eric, says he was 17 when he began having sex with the director. Singer would have been 31 at the time. The third man, Ben, alleges that he and Singer had oral sex when he was 17 or 18.

“He would stick his hands down your pants without consent,” the man told the Atlantic. “He was predatory in that he would ply people with alcohol and drugs and then have sex with them.”

Singer’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, denied to the magazine that Singer had ever had sex with underage boys, and disputed various details of the accusers’ accounts.

Singer was fired two weeks before the end of production on “Bohemian Rhapsody” in December 2017. The film received five Academy Award nominations on Tuesday, including best picture and best actor for Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. Singer remains the credited director, but was not nominated. He is next scheduled to direct “Red Sonja” for Millennium Films.

In a message sent to us by a representative, the director said, “The last time I posted about this subject, Esquire magazine was preparing to publish an article written by a homophobic journalist who has a bizarre obsession with me dating back to 1997. After careful fact-checking and, in consideration of the lack of credible sources, Esquire chose not to publish this piece of vendetta journalism.

“That didn’t stop this writer from selling it to The Atlantic,” continued the statement. “It’s sad that The Atlantic would stoop to this low standard of journalistic integrity. Again, I am forced to reiterate that this story rehashes claims from bogus lawsuits filed by a disreputable cast of individuals willing to lie for money or attention. And it is no surprise that, with Bohemian Rhapsody being an award-winning hit, this homophobic smear piece has been conveniently timed to take advantage of its success.”
 
Bohemian Rhapsody has been nominated for 5 academy awards which includes best picture, best actor, film editing, sound editing & sound mixing.

From bts drama & allegations of sexual misconduct against Singer to legendary box office performance & awards season recognition, what a ride it has been for this movie.
 
I hate that the negatives of Singer are even attached to this film.

The remaining members of the band really like him and this is a Singer movie through and through. The association is unavoidable.
 
It’s true. If these allegations never became public, he most likely would’ve been nominated for Best Director.
 
I doubt he would have been nominated regardless. He was fired during filming very publicly. I don't think the Academy would reward a fired director with an Oscar.
 
That's why sites like AwardsWatch are insufferable sometimes. This lynch-mob, guilty-by-association mentality they've got going on over there is disgusting.
 
I agree that the efforts of people who are decent human beings should not be tarnished because of 1 awful person. I look at Roman Polanksi differently, but for the most part that is how I see it. Guys like Bryan Singer need to be removed from the equation (assuming the whispers and accusations are true). But don't punish people who didn't actually do anything wrong.
 
Yes, but people refuse to see a Polanski film or a Woody Allen film because of those allegations. People won’t watch reruns of The Cosby Show.

In Polanksi's case, he is a convicted criminal. That is why it is different for me. People working with him KNOW they're working with a convicted felon who fled justice. So I have a hard time supporting him.

I understand it is a tough issue with people to wrestle with, but that is where I fall into it. As a guy who has worked on his own projects, I wouldn't want my efforts to be tarnished because someone did something out of my control.
 
Why did Fox even CREDIT Singer as director after they fired him? They KNEW he was accused before. They should've just credited Dexter instead, that's what I did. When I saw this movie both times, I wasn't even THINKING of Singer or his involvement. The movie was good enough to not LET me even think of him, that's how good it was. Who the F cares? He didn't write the movie and he was never nominated to begin with.

Film credits are not decided by studios. They're decied by the various unions. In this case, the Director's Guild of America. You have to credit the director who shot the greater portion of the movie. Bryan Singer shot all but 2 weeks or a month of the movie. So legally, he has to be credited. There is no loop hole.
 
Exactly. It’s still Bryan Singer’s film. Reading that article, the studio was unsure of hiring Singer in the first place, not because of past allegations but his history with disappearing off set. It was the members of Queen who insisted on him being director or the film would not be made.

Who knows? If Singer wasn’t director maybe the film wouldn’t have turned out to be what it is. But he’s definitely a part of its success which can’t be disputed even if he’s a terrible person.

I understand, but I'm not defending HIM. I'm defending the movie.
 
I think I read somewhere that Dexter Fletcher's only worthwhile contribution to the movie are the scenes of Mercury with his wife. The rest of the movie is Singer's work.

Regardless, I just want to enjoy the movie in peace. That's all I ask. **** Singer if ANY of these allegations are true. Doesn't affect how I enjoy the movie.

P.S. I keep writing Singer as Snyder as I type this and I keep having to correct them.
 
So...either a guy who is very probably is a child predator and is definitely so unprofessional that he is going to get fired during production gets a movie (and, later...more high paying jobs, massive box office and awards for his movie and cast) or the movie doesn't get made.

I wish the studio had opted to just not make the movie.

The Academy's NOT inviting him. Mark my words.

Also, I'll reiterate what I just said on Twitter: you can divorce the art from the artist. It's perfectly OK. You can still enjoy Bohemian Rhapsody and still ****-talk Singer all you want. The movie is NOT representative of the crap he's accursed of; they're two different things.
 
Right. It's the same reason I'm still able to enjoy The Usual Suspects, Se7en, House of Cards, The Pianist, and Rosemary's Baby.

Love the films and performances. The filmmakers themselves (Singer, Spacey, Polanski) are ****bags.
