Eh, his ego could stand to lose some weight, but I still enjoy The Walking Dead.

not just his ego......zing. Anyway, he kind of gives me that Dan slott vibe, they have very simliar writing styles among other things.

Kirkman just comes across as very bitter to me (probably a consequence of the fact that Kirkman leaving Marvel probably costs him a lot more than it costs Marvel).

Damn y'all are taking that whole "do independent comics" thing from Kirkman real personal, huh?

No, I love indie comics. Kirkman's manifesto did come off pretty self-important and egotistical, though. "Save the medium! Be like me and shun the big two!" Get off it, dude.

I've been reading comics more than most here and I'll just say it...

Screw Indie Comics. I love the Big 2 and I'm not ashamed. They have the best talent and put the most production value into their comics.

**** Hickman. Enjoy John Byrne's career.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

I think you mean Kirkman. Unless you really hate the guy who'll be writing your favorite team starting next week, in which case, sucks to be you. ;)

Ha... I always switch those guys names in my head...

And yes... I am a self hating FF Fan.

:D

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I think all fans are self-hating at some point. I know I wasn't too happy with myself for reading Ellis' Thor comics.

I feel ya.

Man, I love "indie" books...

If it weren't for Pacific Comics, I would have never discovered Groo back in 1982/83, I would have never read Miracleman by Eclipse, I would have never read Mike Grell's Jon Sable in 1984 if not for First Comics, I would have never enjoyed Bill Willingham's art/writing in the Elementals from Comico comics in 1984, or even the early issues of TMNT back in 1984 (I have an original oversized first print of issue #3, the Raphaël one shot, and well as the Fugitoid one shot), or any of the cool Chester Brown stuff, like Yummy Fur, released throughout the 80's & 90's by Drawn and Quarterly, or Caliber Press' Bakker Street in 1989, or Dave Cockrum's Futurians by Lodestone Comics in 1983, or currently reading Rex Mundi, or Archaia Studios Press' The Secret History... or Avatar Press' Doktor Sleepless... or Dynamite Forces' The Lone Ranger... the list goes on...

I get what Kirkman had to say... he just presented it in a way that made him look more like a *****e, which is unfortunate, because I have a lot of respect for that guy...

The thing is... you can't take down Marvel & DC... Image tried it in the 90's, and all they succeeded in doing is wrecking the whole industry... you NEED the Big Two, and hopefully, when you discover comics via the Big Two, you might get influenced into reading something completely different... like some really cool indies...

:yay:

And these are just from the top of my head...

Well, talent is subjective and since half the talent at the big 2 is from former/current indie comics creators...heh.

As for them having the most production value...really? Big corporations have more cash than a dude doing his own thing? Shocking.

"Indie Comics" need the Big Two, because they are the gateway to the indies...

So the more successful that Marvel & DC are, the better it is for the independant comics...
Because with more people reading the Marvel & DC books, many will be drawn towards the indies at some point...

Just my two cents...

:yay:

A good comic is a good comic. From the big 2 or not. "Big production values" or not.

Spider-Man fans in general are pretty self hating wouldn't you think? :ninja:

So, uh, ...anyone read Wolverine: Weapon X #4? I know it's not cool to like Wolverine and all, but I haven't made it to the shop yet and was wondering if, ya know, anything cool happened.

I say read what you like, but definitely go the extra mile, and come off as a smug jacka** elitist for reading indie comics here and there. :o

I'd take Kirkman like Alex Ross. Enjoy their work, and ignore the rest. :o

I actually imagine people think of me like that at work. :(

I say read what you like too, but you know, all the "cool kids" will tell you if it's good or not.

We're talking about comics, there are no cool kids:oldrazz:

HAHAHAHAHHA.

Nice, I forgot where I was for a second!
