Not really that hard to believe, actually. Nightcrawler led Excalibur after Captain Britain went wherever he went, and he proved a much more stable leader than Havok did with X-Factor, I thought. I mean, Kurt never flirted with actually becoming a mutant extremist while undercover, for one thing.

No, I mean that it never really seemed like he was in charge.
