Bought/Thought September 2nd, 2009 - SPOILERS

Xander (and Willow) found Dawn hot when she was dancing in ****ty clothes before realizing who she was. There was definitely some foreshadowing in this season when Dawn was a centaur and tells Xander he will "have to ride her". I noticed the sexual tension then and wondered if it would come back.

Thought

Incognito - All in all not a bad series, but I’m glad Brubaker and Phillips will be getting back to Criminal now.

Black Panther - Things are already looking up from a writing stand point. Not too crazy about the Dora Milaje “army”…worked better as a duo IMO, but ah well.

Ult.Spider-Man – Never read a single issue of the old series but decided what the heck. Not bad so far. Hard to believe Bendis has a book (besides Powers) that I’m willing to spend money on…

Magog – Meh.

Immortal Weapons - Double Meh. Wasn’t even really about The Bride of Nine Spiders…

Chew – Maybe my favorite from Image right now.

I felt a little ripped off with the Immortal Weapons story this week too. I don't feel like I know anything more about the Bride of Nine Spiders than I did when I started. I know more about some random art thief, some random old lady, and some random rich dude. Even more disappointing that Cullen Bunn wrote it, since I love his work on The Damned. I mean, it was a decent story, it just seemed to miss the point. This ain't a one-off issue in an ongoing series, where we can afford indulgences into random side stories that are kinda-sorta related to the Weapons. This is a mini-series with one issue ostensibly about each Weapon, so it should retain its focus.

This felt like the Bride of Nine Spiders' equivalent of one of those Orson Randall stories that would make for a nice one-shot--we learn a little about the Iron Fist legacy around the corners of this stand-alone story but, in the end, it's the stand-alone story that's the meat of the issue. That's fine for Orson since we're already invested in the Iron Fist legacy and Orson as a character. But we know next to nothing about the Bride or her legacy, so we really can't be invested going into the issue. Personally, I was looking forward to this issue expanding on her legacy and/or her personality so that I could get invested. Alas, that didn't happen.

I will GLADLY read Spidey Loves Mary Jane in public. Public perceptions be hanged; it's a damn good book and I WANT people to see it being read. If a book is good, I don't care WHO the target audience is, I will read it. I will add it to my pull list. Good books deserve to be read and supported. The other crap can be recycled into new paper FOR the good comics.

On the front of admittin' yer hobby in public, let that be hanged as well. Hell, do you one better: I read, collect and CREATE comics. Look at me, uber geek! Puh-leeze. People got a problem with what we do, that's THEIR problem. Ain't nobody should let anyone else's perceptions dictate what THEY do.

Amethyst is a pretty damn good book. Havin' interacted with one of the co-creators, I went out and picked up the entire run as well as Blue Devil. Some mighty fine work until DC started stickin' their hands in things and mucking it up. The original 12 of Amethyst and 7 of Blue Devil is what was originally envisioned.

Strange Tales, while I applaud Marvel fer givin' Indie guys a shot, I was a little put off by some of the artwork. I like Indies, hell, I WORK in indies, but while many are good alternatives to mainstream, some just leave you scratching your head. Does that mean they suck? Well, all opinions and tastes I guess. In mine, that's not the kinda stuff I wanna look at or spend money on.

Haven't read the buffy issue yet, but let's be honest, if a girl's attractive a lot of guys will go out with her when she's old enough even if at some point she was too young. Tie that in with it being commented on numerous times that she found him attractive over the years and it makes perfect sense.
Well...sure, if your one and only prerequisite for going out with someone is "Wow they're hot." Which, okay, is sometimes reason enough, :O but Xander is surrounded from all sides by hot women. Why the **** Dawn? And, yeah, that, literally? And "They bonded a lot" is not the best reason, Xander bonds with everyone. Xander bonded with Buffy about as much or even more this season than he did with Dawn, and even more exponentially so if you count the whole show, yet they're not tongue-wrestling.

There's just really no reason why Xander and Dawn make particularly any more sense as lovers than they do as good friends. It's just, y'know, let's put something controversial and WILD on the page and let everyone yak about it. Which isn't the most horrible thing in the world, lord knows it's happened on the shows before, but it is what it is.

Does anyone read Street fighter comics from Udon comics? :S

Aren't UDON's comics always, always, always late? I read a trade or two of Street Fighter but I couldn't be bothered to figure out when their Street Fighter comics would actually come out, so I just forgot about the series.

I try to read UDON's stuff, but it's so chaotic and vibrant that the pictures hurt my eyes.

And the Dynamite logo appears on Marvel books that feature Marvel characters but are published by Dynamite. Or so says the internet.

Doesn't really answer my question. The Human Torch property, in all its myriad forms, is owned by Marvel and Dynamite has nothing to do with it. So why's Dynamite publishing a comic about the Golden Age Torch? I figure it has something to do with Alex Ross, since he's been doing work primarily for Dynamite lately, but I was looking for confirmation.

Yeah it's Ross. That Avengers/Invader mini had the Dynamite logo too.
