Box Office 2015

One way to look at it is that the second weekend of TFA lands between the opening weekends for Spider-Man 3 and Furious 7. Those made around 336 and 353 million in total. So it's not unreasonable TFA will add at least another 350 million after the first week's 391 million. And with the legs it has shown so far it is probably more likely it will be over 400 million, or even 500 million.
And this is after a chunk of the TFA frontloading has worn off having been out for a week, while it is still at its max for those films on opening weekend. Plus Winter legs ;)

Can't imagine what China will be like in 10 years. We'll need a separate category for them.

Early Friday PM industry figures show Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens making $35M today, raising its cume through 15 days to $687M. What does this mean? It means that Force Awakens bypassed the No. 2 and No. 3 all-time domestic grossing titles Titanic ($658.7M) and Jurassic World ($652.27M) in the same day. By end of Sunday, Force Awakens’ total will stand at $744.8M, just $15.7M short of Avatar‘s all-time domestic record of $760.5M. Should these figures hold up, this would put Force Awakens in a position to own the all-time crown by end of Monday. Worst case scenario – Tuesday.

Estimated third FSS for Force Awakens: $92.8M, off 38% from its Christmas frame. In its third weekend, which also fell over New Year’s 2010, Avatar made $68.5M.

A billion domestic almost seems easy now, lol. Who in their right mind would've thought?

Man, I'm tempted to say that the only thing that could ever beat this in the next 10 years is Episode 8 or Episode 9.

Took the scalps of Titanic and Jurassic World! Not a bad day's work.

You gotta give Cameron props tho, it took SW to bring him down. I actually give him more credit for doing it with original material.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Vs ‘Avatar’: It’s A Different Picture Overseas

Some interesting things here:

There’s also a simple math issue to remember here. Offshore currencies have been seriously devalued in the intervening years, and even rival distribs have pointed that out. TFA‘s current $21.7M in Brazil would have been closer to $50M a year-and-a-half ago.
Another adds, “I think the strong dollar makes $2B a lot harder.” Avatar had 5%-10% better foreign exchange rates, confirms a number-cruncher.

I saw this and I am confused about the 21.7 being closer to 50m a year and a half ago thing. Are they saying the vaule of a dollar has went down or something?

The value of a dollar has gone up. So, more of the local currency needs to be spent in order to equal a dollar. It screws around with the totals, because most likely, prices for tickets have not changed with the fluctuating value of the dollar, and everything is tracked in dollars.

"I'm king of the wo... eh, North America!"

As of Wednesday morning, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially passed James Cameron's Avatar to become the highest grossing movie ever in the United States. The number to beat was $760.5 million, which it has, becoming only the second movie to ever gross over $700 million domestically.

Star Wars is now also number one worldwide of the year

Domestic: $812,011,043 46.8% + Foreign: $921,400,000 53.2% = Worldwide: $1,733,411,043

Looks like Star Wars won the weekend again, though The Revenant came awfully close to dethroning it. Ride Along 2 will more than likely come out on top next week.

Don't under-estimate the power of the force..... :nono:

Considering the first "Ride Along" made $41 million during its opening weekend and Star Wars will be entering its fifth weekend, I'd say it's a safe bet.

You can forget about that mister. It wouldn't be the internet if it didn't have a hypocritical hate ***** for Cameron.
