Box Office 2016

Is Doctor Strange expected to surpass Suicide Squad eventualy?

I'm very skeptical that it can. I expect DS to be somewhere between 650-700 million when it's all said and done.

Its possible, but a long shot. Basically, it needs to hold unusually well in the face of late-week competition. If FB flops, that will help, but the main factor is just whether people still keep trickling in to see it despite not being new.

Squad had the rare advantage of having pretty much no competition at all for at least 5 weeks, Strange has a big franchise movie on its third week, its not gonna happen but if it makes it to 700 million that'd be much more impressive since Squad had Will Smith and Jared Leto as the biggest DC villian ever and Margot Robbie as what's basically female Deadpool (not personality wise but, popularity wise)

DS is going to make it to the $700-$800 million range. Actually, I'd bet money it'll make more than SS even if it doesn't hit $800 million.

But yeah, SS made its money based on a lack of competition and the fact that a good portion of releases didn't make any impression at all at the box office.

Fantastic Beasts opened lower than expected with 75 million.
Strange stands at $571.5 million. Domestic: $181.5 million. Foreign: $390 million. Heading to an approximately 700-740 million finish.
And, finally, SLOP beats BvS at the box office with 873.4 million worldwide. LOL.

So is it a given Fantastic Beasts, Moana, and Rogue One will push The Mermaid, Doctor Strange and Suicide Squad out of the top 10?

So it looks like Disney could possibly have the top 5 spots this year, depending on how Fantastic beasts does. I haven't checked out the predictions for that one.

Fantastic Beasts did well enough. I thought it was a good expansion of the franchise. Not likely to make a billion dollars or anything but it will definitely do well in the theater.

I could be wrong but I see it falling somewhere in the $600-$700 million range.

SS pretty much faced the same late summer circumstance as GotG. Looking at the duration of about 10 weeks. TMNT pulled some focus from but it's totals pretty much amounted to like 190 domestic and a staggered intl amounting to like 400. The key difference really is this lack of china thing. 100million seems to be the avg for these films.

Doctor Strange surpassing the worldwide takes of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and possibly Suicide Squad is going to be pretty amusing...and fantastic.

I don't see Strange surpassing Suicide Squad honestly but I can see it squeaking past TASM2 eventually. Then again I'm no box office expert xD.

On a side note I will be highly amused if FB doesn't beat Suicide Squad

DC movies are WB's current big money Franchise. FB isn't surpassing SS or BvS, it might not even pass MOS

Anyone else think Patriot's Day might have an American Sniper type run?

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesnt, but I think theres a possibility

Argentina and Japan(Jan) are the last two markets for Doctor Strange overseas.

Likely finish between TDW(644 million) and TWS (714 million). Around 670 million worldwide.

In that case Suicide Squad will likely stay in the top 10 highest grossing movies of 2016. Only Moana and Rogue One have a chance of surpassing SS. In the latter's case its pretty much guaranteed. DC is undoubtedly WB's cash cow!

Yeah that seems about right to me. Its not hitting 800 mil like some fans think. Still a great showing for Doctor Strange though!

What about Fantastic Beasts?

At first I thought it was definitely going to surpass Suicide Squad but I guess I overhyped it. Now it didn't outright bomb but it certainly didn't pull in the huge domestic numbers previous installments did, worldwide seems to be doing fine. I guess we'll see how well it holds over the next few weekends to know for sure though.

DC remains WB's biggest cash cow. Doesn't surprise me honestly because us fans have been saying for years that WB was just sitting on a goldmine.

This is how I see it, too. Even I was surprised that FB came in lower than projected. Obviously, it's doing well but I don't think it's well enough to pass BvS or SS.

I think you guys are counting out Sing too prematurely (Sing's entire BO run should be counted in 2016 right? Because I don't see TFA in the list). It's unlikely to make 875M like SLOP but passing Deadpool and making more than FB is doable.
