Very curious to see how other superhero movies will do this year.

Civil War should do a billion easily; if it really delivers, it could do Age of Ultron numbers. Suicide Squad could finish in the 800-900M range if it is as good as the initial hype has been.

X-Men Apocalypse could do well too. I'd wager Doctor Strange will end up around 650-700M.

Not surprised to see Batman v Superman tapering off fast.

Fandango announced this morning that Captain America: Civil War is outselling every previous Marvel movie in advance ticket sales. They also published the following press release:
“CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR,” “FINDING DORY” AND “GHOSTBUSTERS” VOTED MOST ANTICIPATED SUMMER FILMS IN FANDANGO MOVIEGOER SURVEY
Survey Says Moviegoers Plan to Visit the Theater More Frequently This Summer
LOS ANGELES – April 21, 2016 — Fandango, the nation’s leading digital network for all things movies visited by 63 million unique visitors per month, today revealed the results of its Most Anticipated Summer Movies Survey, in which “Captain America: Civil War,” was voted by movie fans as the most anticipated action movie of the season. The May 6 release is currently outselling all previous Marvel movies, including the first two “Avengers” movies and “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” at the same point in the sales cycle on Fandango.
“Finding Dory” was selected as the most anticipated family film, with “The Secret Life of Pets” and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” coming in a close second and third. Paul Feig’s female-led “Ghostbusters” reboot was voted the most anticipated summer comedy, followed by “Central Intelligence” and “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.” Top 5 lists for each film genre can be found below.
Fandango’s summer movie survey also revealed:

  • 71% would consider seeing the same movie more than once on the big screen;
  • 66% plan to go to the movies at least four times this summer;
  • 60% expect to see more movies in the theater this summer than they saw last summer.
“According to our survey, fans will be spending more time at the multiplex this summer,” says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “Last year’s record-breaking movie line-up has inspired fans to return to theaters, and this summer there is truly something for everyone. The season kicks off in May with Marvel’s best movie yet, ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ while ‘Finding Dory’ will catch the family audience in June, a fresh, female-driven ’Ghostbusters’ will attract comedy fans in July, and the ‘Suicide Squad’ is sure to generate a lot of love for the supervillains in August.”

Surprised to see London Has Fallen is there.
I did not think that it did that well.

Random question: which "Kid has a giant friend" movie do you guys think will when at the box office and critically?
1. Pete's Dragon
2. The BFG
3. A Monster Calls

They showed all 3 trailers in front of my Jungle Book screening and it got me thinking

It will follow as so:

1. The BFG - Spielberg, I'm still having difficulty processing that some people (at least on IMDB) think it's going to flop, Spielberg and ET screenwriter reunion here.
2. Pete's Dragon - It's going to do good, but there will have been many quality family films over the summer that it will see moderate business as a result
3. A Monster Calls - unless it's more kid friendly then the trailer, this seems to cut out a lot of younger audience members

I am most excited for 'A Monster Calls.'

1. Warcraft
2. Inferno (the Da Vinci Code movie)
3. Jack Reacher
4. The Huntsman
5. Angry Birds Movie (about 3-5 years too late)
6. Tarzan
7. Passengers (the J.Law, Chris Pratt movie)
*Maybe Assassin's Creed. Idk I just feel like everyone will still be seeing Rogue One

So far, so wrong

#1 movie of the weekend right? And the budget for it is less than $100 million.

C'mon Zootopia, snag that big B, I know you can. You've had some of the most impressive legs I've seen in a movie in a long time.

Considering that it made $12 mil the past two weeks, I think it has it in the bag.

What other films can you see making a billion other than Civil War, Zootopia and Rogue One? Last year we had five films that made at least 1.1 Billion or more this year we may just have three.

Finding Dory could make it, I suppose. But I feel less sure after the huge succes of Zootopia. Question is if Disney can have two billion grossing animated movies in the same year. And not to forget they also have Moana coming at the end of the year. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is also a possibility. Anything related to Harry Potter seems to still be popular.
