Yeah, Batman and Iron man pretty much ensured an increase from Cap 2 and Man of Steel.
However, BvS was expected to do better box office wise and Cap 3 earned less than Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Cap 3 works as a sequel for those films as well.
The Purge: Election Year just opened $1 million more than The Purge 2, $30.8 mil vs. $29.8 mil. That's down from the first Purge film which opened with $34 million. Purge 2 did gross the most in the series domestically at $71 mil. We'll see if this has any legs.
I guess I'm mixed on if it would've done better with a different name. On one hand, the cloverfield name does generate interest. On the other, it made many people expect a movie that was much different from what we got.

The audience was loving it. People were laughing out loud at every joke. I don't like the Minions either, so I guess this humor style just isn't for me. lolApparently a lot of others may disagree with you. This one is looking to be a juggernaut, undoubtedly a larger one than anyone initially surmised.
I think calling it 10 Cloverfield Lane was it's downfall. I think it wouldve been way better received by audiences and wouldve made more money if it didn't have the Cloverfield name or that loose tie in
