So, who's going to win this year? 2018 feels a like a more open race than 2017 who delivered a very expected winner. Personally I don't see Star Wars as a big favorite this year. It's just another one of those spinoff movies. It's the fourth Star Wars-movie in a short time and it arrives only a few months after The Last Jedi, which seemed to be more loved by critics than the audience. Franchises like Avengers and Jurassic World can definitely beat Star Wars this year, I think. Although, with the fourth Avengers coming as soon as next year, that might have some impact on Infinity War. Not to mention 2018 is pretty crowded with superhero-movies in general. Black Panther feels like it will be the biggest pre-summer release. Pre-sales of tickets for that movie has been better than for any previous MCU-movie. Not impossible that it will be the biggest superhero-movie of the year, with the advantage of being released in February with very little in terms of competition. Remains also to see if Warner can find some success with Aquaman. Obviously there are a lot of other movies with potential. And China probably will deliver some succesful movies. Monster Hunt 2, for example. The first one made over $380 million a few years ago.

Infinity War will be top by the end of 2018, for me, (he says with :csad: :woot:)

I think it's getting harder and harder to predict the top 10, especially when you have all these Chinese films holding their own against Hollywood at the box office. But I'll try...

1) Inifinity War
2) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
3) Black Panther
4) Incredibles 2
5) Solo: A Star Wars Story
6) Fantastic Beasts 2
7) Deadpool 2
8) Aquaman
9) Antman & the Wasp
10) Mission Impossible

China starting to ramp up now. Can't imagine what the box office landscape will be like in a few more decades.

China will be the key to getting our first 3 billion dollar grossing film IMO. I wonder which film will end up hitting that milestone first... Likely a Disney release since they have Star Wars, Marvel and Avatar.

I'm really curious what the first three billion dollar movie will be. I would love for it to be Infinity War (or Avengers 4), but I don't know if that will actually happen.

It's interesting how pretty much China-only releases can do such big numbers. Getting it right in the U.S. and China means big bucks.

Never say never, but I don't think there will be a three billion movie in the near future. To reach that kind of numbers you really have to make big numbers in pretty much every country. The reason Titanic and Avatar could make such extraordinary numbers at the time of their release is those movies set new all-time records if not everywhere, then almost everywhere. I just can't see any of the hot franchises at the moment be able to do that. Perhaps stuff like Star Wars or Avengers might be able to reach those heights in another 15-20 years or so, but not today when very few movies are able to even pass $1,5 billion
