I sent my PS 3 to Sony this Monday for exchange (at a cost of $149), got my exchanged unit Friday, spent most of the afternoon setting it up and playing a little bit of a few games just to see how they looked on my new flat-screen HDTV. After a while, I left it on for a bit to top off the charge of the controller. When I next tried to play a game (Civ IV), It stopped working, no picture, no sound, no nothing, and it won't respond to the controller. Up until then it worked fine. I tried everything Sony reccomended, no luck. Now it looks like I'll have to send it back, after having it for only a day. This really sucks.

Dam that sucks, Which one is it 40gb? 60gb or higher?

80 gb, one of the older ones that can play PS 2 games.

Maybe, but all I know is this particular 80 gb model can, too. It's an older, discontinued model that I got used at Gamestop.

Did you try holding your finger on the power button for about 5 or 6 seconds? That will reset all your sound and display settings back to factory default. Probably won't fix your problem but it's worth a shot if you haven't already tried it.

Yah, I've tried that and everything else that I could do as outlined on the website. No luck. I do believe I'll have to send it back and get ANOTHER replacement. Right now, I'm waiting for them to respond to my e-mail, I couldn't get a live rep on the phone this time. This sucks.

did you have the latest firmware because i remember something about a recovery menu that might work. if you did then try to find the details.

Yes, I have the latest update. That was one of the first things I did after I got it all hooked up. The thing is I can't DO ANYTHING like system restore or recovery because when I turn on the machine, all I get is a blank screen, no sound, no menu, no nothing, and I have to turn it on using the on/off switch on the machine itself as it is no longer responding to the controller. The machine (and controller) had been working fine all afternoon, and I tried everything I could as outlined on the website, with no luck. All I had done was put in a game disc that I had played earlier with no problem (Civ 4), and it just stopped working. Very frustrating.

Maybe you have to put on a different format like 720p or 1080 i or something

Like I said, up until then it was working fine, I didn't change anything. It just stopped working. Believe me, I tried everything I could.
