I have played Dodgeball but the difference here is that the victim is unwilling and often the perpetrators have bad intentions rather than wanting to play a game

It's like comparing tackling someone in Rugby against tackling someone in the street.

To be fair, Schoolyard Bullying can be quite traumatizing at times.
Although I have never understood cyber bullying. Your on the internet, you can simply ignore people. If you get sent insulting mails, you can add them to your ignore list.

Thugby a colloquialism for rugby or is it something else..?

Basically it was about 50 boys split into too sides where the you had to score a try/touchdown at the oppositions end of the field like American football/rugby ect.

Other than that anything goes! you can kick, punch, wrestle and tackle your opponent.

No one held onto the ball for too long because about ten guys would run at you catch you and beat the snot of you and then take the ball.

Only the kids built like a tank ever scored so everyone just passed to them. Their would be guys jumping on their backs, punching them, kicking them anything to bring them down and get the ball from them.

It was quite bloody.
