Cover for One More Day...if only it were JMS in those sights.

Ugh...ugh ugh ugh...

Really, He's just trying to agg us on, now. We know either May or Mj is going into the ground, and we know that, whatever the outcome, we're not going to be satisfied, and we know that, no matter what happens, the issues will sell like mad simply because people who don't regularly buy the book will pick it up just because they think it'll be worth money (Superman#75, Civil War #2, Batman #497, anyone?).

Personally, I'm just going to say that JMS and Joey Q have ruined the title, and they will continue to do so until they leave. It's all they can do.

The only good outcome about this is, with JQ and JMS focused on Spidey so much, they can't ruin DD, Punisher, Cap, or Runaways. I guess that's something, right?

Since we already know that MJ and Pete part ways during this summer's "One More Day" event which will be JMS' swan song on Spider-Man, that pic means very little to me.

:csad:

Maybe May is killed, and the grief over it causes MJ and Peter to split up.

Then, Peter will be a loner, and decide to start wearing bat-ears over his costume.

Here's my thoughts on the whole thing, as I posted in the bought/thought thread for this week's comics in the Marvel Forums...

Amazing Spider-Man #537...
the "War at Home" hits part 6 of 7, and Garney's art has improved over the last few issues. Kind of a filler issue, but the Kingpin bit was nice to see, because I remember a time when Spidey was Wilson Fisk's #1 enemy, and stopped short of killing him because of a promise to his wife to give up crime. When Frank Miller reinvented the character in the early 80's, it was just "DareDevil, DareDevil, DareDevil..." and Spidey came off as a joke to Fisk, which was very insulting to this reader, especially if you understand their history together... anyway, it was well worth it to see Fisk want to do something to his once-most-hated-foe instead of thinking of Spidey as a joke. Yet another climactic ending, but we all know that nothing too bad will happen as JMS prepares his final Spider-Man story (penciled by Quesada) for this summer entitled "One More Day" (2 issues of ASM, 1 of FNS and 1 of Sensational)... where they finally deal with the Quesada-created "controversy" :whatever: of the Peter Parker/Mary Jane Wedding/Marriage. At least the couple will have survived 20 yeas of real life matrimony before that fat dipstick (Quesada) decided he didn't like and started talking about their relationship as if it were controversial, hence making them part ways. And it will be one of those "Peter can't have loved ones due to his being Spider-Man, so he will sacrifice himself of MJ love by always being away from her, and probably letting Loki (remember, Loki owes Spidey a favour) making everyone forget his identity, including MJ... hence, that ol' Spectre of Spider-Man comes between Peter and the woman he loves yet once again, and Spidey will become a vigilante in the Marvel Universe, thanks to Civil War, thus setting things up akin to what they were in the 70's... Spidey's heyday. But that's just speculation on my part.

manofbat--i hope ur wrong but knowing how the books have been lately, ur probably rite :(

Well... it certainly looks like they are in imminent danger of blowing a big hole in their one remaining good foot.

If they think they can kill Aunt May or split up Peter and MJ without a hugely NEGATIVE backlash, then they have severely misjudged their audience.... and it won't be the first time. :down

There is NO WAY they can write either one of those events to be "touching" or compelling for me because - TRUST me JQ, JMS - I will be too TICKED OFF to even be "in" the story!

Sadly (and it is sad, because I LOVE Spider-Man and WANT to read good stories, but I will NEVER support a dumb-ass move like that), I think they have MASSIVELY underestimated the "appeal" of such a direction and the willingness of fans to slog through the repercussions... :( I know I won't.

And BTW... I spend ridiculous amount of money on this character (because I am an ADULT and have a JOB) but believe you me, that will come to a crashing HAULT if they take away key elements to the stories that I enjoy. And it won't just be the comics. It will be a COMPLETE boycott, and I don't think I'll be alone.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's this 'One More Day' event and when/ where was it discussed?

(If it's at all possible to discuss it without spoilering ASM 537 and CW 6 that'd be grand!) ;)

btw...thats not the cover of one more day....its the last page of amazing 537

Here's a link to the "One More Day" storyline...

May contain spoilers, read at your own risk.

It's JMS' final Spider-Man story in August, 2007.

Yeah, I was thinking that too.....

Can't wait to see how May and MJ get out of this one. If they do, of course.

That pic stinks. Frankly.

It is basically showing us what we already know: May and MJ are in Joey Q's crosshairs.

Very maddening.

Yep....they are gonna "FIX" spidey alright.......

Why can't they leave the (favorite) character of mine alone!!????

Stop taking us in dumb circles in dumb storylines and creating SHOCK AND AWE events that are meaningless and an insult. And that will have to be retconned. Back to where we were.

Hire good writers that LOVE the character. Write good stories and move forward with them.

HAve some respect for Spidey and his CONTINUITY.

HAve respect for us longtime fans, who've always spent their money on Spidey, and not just when he gets a NEW STINKING IRON OCTOPUS COSTUME or REVEALS HIMSELF TO THE PRESS.

Stop trashing MArvel's premiere character for the sake of sales!
Sheesh....is it THAT much to ask.

I hope fan backlash is HARD AND STRONG AND IMMEDIATE.

Maybe that way we'll get the (inevitable) retcon QUICKER and get over this Depressing Joey Q. Spidey Lull Period.

Speak with your money folks!!

Well, that's a huge error... saying that it was the One More Day cover...

But that cover had little to do with my thoughts on the rumors swirling around JQ's comments and his dubious "goals" for the story. :(

This is probably what Ron (Garney) was talking about.

1. One of them or both of them will get shot, but not die.

2. This will lead Peter to wear the black. (537 was late, right? wouldn't that mean that 538 comes out at the end of this month or early next month?)

3. One more day. The final fate of whoever or both that got shot.

That's what I think will happen. All of it = :down

One More Day occurs in August... I don't think they'd let a "someone gets shot" story drag on for 8 months, but ya never know.

:csad:

This is maver, they let HOM drag out way too long.

Hmmm... I think May will be the one getting shot resulting in the black costume (still wondering how they're going to explain that... symbiote? cloth? Doesn't MJ hate it?).

I agree with TMOB and Stillanerd on how One More Day will play out and will center on MJ and Pete.

About the black suit, it's time MJ got over it if she hasn't already. It no longer makes sense.

Why? The original suit turned-out to be an alien symbiote that bonded to a man that hates Peter and became one of Spidey's worst villains. It makes perfect sense that she would not want to see Peter wearing that costume even if some time has passed since she was personally menaced by Venom.

This is just a personal opinion, but how exactly would you guys like the character of peter/spiderman to grow, and develope if his life always stays the same. I relize it's a comic you guys are used to, but like in real life sometimes people die, or split up or whatever, and now we get to see how a character like spiderman will deal with these events, and how it will effects how he acts as a hero. Plus if it really doesn't work they will find a way to bring the chacter they choose to kill back to life(it might be stupid, but we'll get over it like the clone saga). Any way i guess i'm let's see how it turns out.

Look, if she's gonna be scared of anyone, it should be GG or anyone but Venom. She's been through alot over the years, going through some stuff now. If she can't get over it, what does it say about her character? If she's gonna live in fear of a damn color, she has no business even being with peter.

I don't mind at all seeing the character grow. The problem is that the powers that be are trying to turn the clock back on the character to take him back to his earlier youthful heyday. They are doing the opposite of growth.
As for dealing with loss, well, historically, Spidey has almost always been shown dealing with some sort of loss-- Uncle Ben, Captain Stacy, Gwen, Aunt May (she died once already), MJ (when he thought she was dead), etc... it wouldn't be anything new for the character if he was to lose MJ or Aunt May again...

It's not just "a damn color". It's the SAME SUIT that Venom still parades around in. Why would she want her husband to dress-up just like a psycho who has repeatedly menaced him and his loved ones? It's not just about being scared.

The black suit is my personal favorite, but I still find it a stretch that Peter would want to wear a costume that has become synonymous with one of his worst enemies.
