Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

I mean, if anything I'd argue that David and Rachel getting cast should incentivize us all to dream a little bit more optimistically. I can't see Gunn making /that/ sure that Superman and Lois castings are perfect, and then just dropping the ball when he eventually comes around to Batman. He'll ideally want to pair his perfect Superman with a perfect Batman.

My thinking is that Lee Pace would probably have it in the bag if Gunn does go for the 40s age range since the exact same reasons to cast him are the same ones that applied to David and Rachel.

It's the "Maybe they do wanna go young" possibility that throws a curveball on this because of how miserable pretty much all of the options seem.

Maybe Gunn would want to give Tom Brittney another shot? lol

I'll say this, though. If Gunn chooses Pace or someone of similar caliber (your guess is as good as mine!), then that'll be two for two. It'll feel much less like a miracle (as it sort of does with Corenswet and Brosnahan's casting) and more like Gunn truly has his finger on the pulse of what fans and audiences want to see. But honestly, it isn't even that I don't trust the man's instincts. A number of things can disqualify a perfectly good candidate from landing a given part. Nothing's set in stone.

Kingsley Ben-Adir, 37, 6”1 (One Night in Miami, Secret Invasion, Barbie)

Dude has played Malcolm X, Obama, and soon, Bob Marley. I think he could pull off Bruce Wayne.

I’d actually prefer Tom Brittney over Theo James. :funny:

I'll also never understand the Ackles love, either.

And if I’m being honest with myself, as much as I think he’s perfect, I think Lee Pace might be a bit older than they’re looking for. Yes, Bruce should ideally be at least 40-ish if Damian’s already Robin, but by the time this movie comes out, Lee will be pushing 50, and they want him to be the Batman of this universe for at least a decade. I think realistically, candidates who are in their mid-late 30’s are who they’ll be looking at. So I actually think Oliver is probably more likely. Also wouldn’t rule out Bond faves like Aidan Turner or Jack O’ Connell either.
Probably right. Realistically they're going to probably gun for a "prime" Batman which in their minds likely means mid-30s even though that'll only make comparisons with Pattinson worse.

Ahhh, O'Connell as Batman - my dream from the pre-Pattinson days. Not sure I could see him for this (Gunn is so fussy about height that he'd never cast someone Jack's height as Batman) but he'd have fit so well into the scrappy, angry, Year One era.

If we're doing race blind casting, which we won't given the disappointingly lily white list of candidates for Clark, then there's a certain darkness and intensity to Steven Yeun (see: Burning) that I've always thought would be exciting for Bruce.

I'd never be outright against a poc bruce, tho I do believe it's the one DC character which's whiteness is important. feel like his extreme priviliege is intrinsic to the character. Ben-Adir is a great pick tho if we were to do it.

Well for the privileged bit (not that I think that matters), technically only Thomas Wayne would need to be white, and Ben-Adir is half white.

The one thing that does give me a bit of hope is that, considering we live in an age where the two biggest action stars (Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves) are both in their early 60s and have ongoing franchises, the prospect of starting with a 46 or so year old actor as Batman and him ending his tenure at 56 seems significantly less implausible. Especially since Gunn is a fan of both those franchises.
Also considering the fact Bautista was 44 when Gunn cast him 10 years ago.

Aidan Turner and Jack O'Connell would be non-starters tbh. Their heights, especially compared to Corenswet would immediately rule them out for Gunn. Even 5'11 actors is pushing it—hell I wouldn't be surprised if he straight up didn't consider anyone under 6'1 or 6'2.

I also don't think PoC actors are particularly likely seeing how his shortlists for Clark, Lois and Lex seem to indicate he has no intention of racebending any of the major characters.

Screw it. Bateman doesn't hold a candle next to Pace, but he's still better than a lot of these other 30something actors. So, I'm putting him back on my list. @flickchick85 is honestly right about the prime Batman thing. Her comments echo my own lingering sentiment, as the chances of Gunn casting Pace in the role are considerably lower due to his age. It's a shame really because he'd make such a compelling Batman onscreen, and that's important if you want to get audiences excited about the DC brand again. But I don't know. If I'm being realistic with myself, it doesn't seem likely than Gunn will consider an actor who's pushing 50.

So, yeah, put Bateman back up there. Maybe Sam Claflin too.

Honestly, that list should be stickied. It'd save us the trouble of googling because laziness is real. :o

All this only for us to wind back at Nicholas Hoult Batman

Ethan Peck is 37?!?!?

He could do it.

You mentioned him before, and I know you wouldn't have done so if he were he a subpar actor. So, next question. Does he have a good voice?

My biggest worry with Ethan would be the fact that he looks a little too similar to Pattinson.

In what way? (You say this about everyone, Invader!) lol

They both kinda have these sort of vampire-ish qualities to their faces that make them kinda similar looking. Under the cowl they'd probably both look identical.

Kinda hate to use this argument but...
Ethan Peck on his own is an intriguing choice. Interesting look, cool voice, seems like a decent enough actor.
The problem?
He's probably too damn similar to Robert Pattinson. They both have a similar bodybuild, they both are around the same age and look the same age, they're both handsome in a pretty weird almost vampiric way, and yeah, I'll say it, even their jawlines look alike. They're both very much cut from the same cloth.
It's tricky because while I'm of the mindset that I don't think Gunn will necessarily be zigging on every place where Reeves is zagging (I do very much think that this Batman and this Gotham will still be fairly dark for example, and I don't think Gunn will stir away from allowing this Batman to be complex in ways that might overlap with Reeves take on some capacities since a lot of it is basic comic Batman stuff) I also think that the thing that'd even allow them to have those overlaps would be to have a very different Bruce Wayne actor from what they have with Pattinson, and yeah this is not it.

Claflin is another one I feel a bit similar about though to a less radical degree. Main difference though is that Claflin comes across as a lot less edgier than Pattinson. But even then I can probably imagine casting directors picking Claflin whenever "Robert Pattinson-type" appears on a casting sheet.

Peck would look great with Corenswet.
I can just see them vibing sooo well. I see the vision clearly. :funny:

Peck does the stoic dry humor thing f***ing fantastically on Star Trek. Not to get things thrown at me, but he's hands-down my favorite Spock (Leonard's still iconic tho!). Last week, he damn near stole the episode with only 3 seconds of screentime. If they want a Batman in this universe who's got that dry humor dynamic with Supes, he'd be a stellar pick, imo.

Honestly, when I look at Peck, I don't see Pattinson at all. And even if I did, that doesn't mean a whole lot unless Gunn himself sees it (which I highly doubt).

Peck is darker (in terms of hair and complexion). His nose is different, his lips are fuller. I could go on, but yeah, don't see it.
