Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

Yeah, Battinson would be perfect along side CorenSupes, but I'm not willing to sacrifice Reeves' creative autonomy to get that, so oh well.

As for any "too short" argument, Batman is canonically shorter than Superman. It's the way it should be. The actual size of the height difference is negligible. 6'1" is a fine height for Bats. The ears compensate. :hehe:
So is Luthor but Gunn doesn't seem to even be entertaining anyone under 6'4 for the part so... I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he ruled out actors for Batman the same way.

Lowkey do think it'll probably be Hoult though. WB wants that man to have a franchise ****ing bad and if I recall correctly they were very hot on the possibility of him in The Batman. He seems young for it but it wouldn't surprise me if the guy they cast is a little inappropriately young just for the sake of longevity.
I don't think it'll be him because I do think his youthful looks will pretty much murder any chance he has on a screentest. Also the exact same reasons Reeves would've entertained casting him are pretty much the exact same ones as to not to cast him in this; and I don't think that'll be lost on Gunn at all.

Casting directors can love on him all they want but he'll just look ridiculous for this and that'll probably overrule whatever fanatism they have for him, especially since it'll be Gunn making the call at the end of the day.

Yeah I'm very prepared for it to be Hoult. But I'll never NOT think it's an incredibly dull choice.

Seeing his name on the shortlist would elicit both tears of laughter (because again? really??) and sadness from me.

Now if they'd just cast him as Superman as me and three other people thought they should have we could have avoided this whole thing!

Well, he still has a shot as Luthor after all.
True indeed.

There's a part of me that has the tiniest little glimmer of hope we'll finally get my long term dream of Jake Gyllenhaal in the role. Maybe the only actor I'd be more excited to see in the part than Pattinson.

Ironically enough I think Jake would be a great choice for Gunn's Luthor as well; arguably better than any of his current ones, especially for All-Star Luthor.

If Batman is only "a few years older" then Superman, then why would he look old? Hoult will be in his mid-late 30s by the time they start shooting BATB, and he looks great with Corenswet.

Remember, this is an 8-10 year plan. You want an actor like Corenswet who can play the role for a decade+, and not age out of the role.

I think he'd look awful as Batman next to Corenswet lmfao. The mental image of him as Bruce Wayne next to Corenswet as Clark just feels like two castings that don't belong in the same movie together.

And Batman still needs to look like a believable father figure for the Bat-Family. Regardless if he's just "a couple years older" there is a certain type of maturity that type of role entails that Hoult just would be pretty awful at portraying. It isn't about looking old, it's about having a certain vibe that Hoult just doesn't have. Nothing about him signals "mentor".

It is obvious why he'd be considered for an early years Superman, or an early years Batman. And it is for those exact same reasons that he shouldn't even be in contention for a Batman that already has this entire history of sidekicks and adoptive sons behind him. The role does not, in any way, call for a Hoult-type and if the only thing he has to back himself up in this is "Well he's young!" then that's a pretty lousy argument for it.

I wouldn't even care if Hoult was 37, his looks and his vibe would still be wrong for it. He might be the one of the most embarrassing picks they could make for this, honestly.

Considering Jake Gyllenhaal is trying to out-Cage Nic Cage in the roles he's picked recently, (IE Ambulance), I can see him playing Lex but that's a completely different energy if he takes that route.

I'm never going to rule Gyllenhaal out until the final casting is announced. He's probably the only actor suited for the role in terms of age and looks (Brolin and Fassbender are too old) that is also a movie star (Pace, Peck and Jackson-Cohen are comparatively unknown). It depends how confident WB are in the new DCU and if they feel they need a big name to sell the movie.

Gosling works in that regard too

Nah, I don’t see it either. He’d be fun as The Question or Booster Gold or some other not-huge character. He’s goofy and weird enough to cover his face and play a conspiracy nut or wear a mask and be a pathological liar.

Just to be clear I would prefer Pace or Jackson-Cohen but Gyllenhaal is the only suitable 'bankable' movie star I can think of that WB might pick if they wanted a big name.

I've been watching more videos with Peck, and I seriously think he might be the one. Here's why.

For one thing, he looks and sounds the part. He's tall (yes, I know Batman is often depicted as being around the same height as Superman, but whatever. 6'1" is still plenty tall IMO), dark and athletic-looking. He has a deep, commanding voice and the presence to go along with it. What's more, there's a certain "darkness" about him that complements the character really well. On that note, I will say that my ideal version of Bruce isn't just this raging spirit born of vengeance. There's a kindness to him as well, a certain purity/innocence that, while fragile and susceptible to the uglier sides of the world, does not diminish. And when I look at that InStyle video interview w/ Peck, I see a warmth that in some ways reminds me of Corenswet. For that reason in particular, I think they'd have excellent onscreen chemistry.

But yeah, definitely give this guy a screen test.

Tom Bateman for Bruce Wayne / Batman.

It'd be so much easier to seriously fancast this dude if any of his performances even slightly indicated he'd be apt at playing either Bruce Wayne or Batman; but sadly, I get the sense he wouldn't get past sending a self-tape.
