Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

He’s come to my mind for Batman before, but yeah I don’t necessarily love Theo for the role.

Lex, however… I could see it. There’s an essence of Clancy Brown’s Luthor.

Casting a New Actor to Play Batman for many Years is more Harder than Cast a New Superman in my opinion Damian should be a Good Actor too

I personally don't really like Theo James for Bruce mostly because (aside from the fact that his acting resume isn't particularly exciting) I reaaally dislike his look for it.
I don't know how else to describe it other than he looks too *****e-baggy for Bruce lol You could make an argument that works for playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne (I guess?) but I keep trying to picture him in the batcave talking to Damian or such and... nah it just doesn't work for me at all. I wouldn't say he's "babyfaced" either but he does somewhat read younger in a way that doesn't really work for me in this.

Lex I could see that, or some other villain.

If he had some severe acting chops to back him up I could overlook his look but he doesn't really seem to have that. Most I can say for him is that he seems to have a cool voice based on his Castlevania voice work— but even that I'd use that more as an argument to have him voice Batman in an animated feature or something instead of ever playing him in live action.

I disagree, I think it's a lot easier for Batman than Superman. A lot of people still use Reeves as the benchmark for live action and thats from over 40 years ago.

Might be a bit too young. Colin Woodell?

Yeah, I think a Superman for film since Reeve has proven most difficult to get right. We’ve had a bunch of great Batman actors.

For what it's worth, though, I feel much more optimistic about Corenswet and Brosnahan getting cast as Supes and Lois, respectively. So much of my overall enthusiasm for this new DCU is riding on Gunn getting that right because it feels like such a no-brainer. If he doesn't, it'll be really hard for me to have faith in anything else he does, Batman's casting included.

@flickchick85 NGL, I'm a little more worried now. :hmm

I think it might be best for some of us to just...forget this movie exists for a while lol. We have a Batman. He's great!

To be fair out of all the things Muschietti does wrong, I feel casting is:
1. Not one of them, in fact I'd say he's surprisingly good at casting, pretty much his only strength as a director.
2. His hiring pretty much guarantees it's gonna be Gunn who picks Batman anyway.

Isn't that Jason Todd actor accused of sexual assault?

...my mild excitement (mostly curiosity) for this was wrung out like a shammy after seeing The Flash, Andy has no right heralding a Bat film.

His 2 batsuits were utterly disgusting, he couldn't capture a single image that was striking with Keaton or even Affleck in either of their suits... it shouldn't be that hard, it's Batman.

Bummer.

Keaton’s suit didn’t look great in Flash but it wasn’t horrible. Definitely a big step back from Returns’ suit. The last decent Batsuits were the battle armor and the regular Batsuit in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Wasn’t really a fan of the Knightmare suit, either of the Justice League suits, The Batman suit, or either of the Flash Batman suits.

Some of the recent ugly Batsuits have made me appreciate the TDK suit more. For me, the best Batman has ever looked is still Batman Returns. 89, Returns, the Panther suit, the Begins suit, and the two main BvS suits are top tier for me.

The worst Batman suits are the Arctic suit from B&R, both of the Justice League suits, and Affleck’s Flash suit.

...I respect what they tried to do with Affleck, initially. But, it looked more like this...

...and sadly less like this...

And that's why Pattinson's rules; perfect mix of Year One / '66 / Bermejo.

I can't see them picking someone under 40. Sounds like this is an established Batman with an established Batfamily. And there is currently another series of Batman movies with someone in that age range.

Muschietti just helmed a film where his Batman was 70 years old. I don't really think age will play too much of a limiting factor here.

I keep coming back to Pedro Pascal as a possibility. It's an intriguing choice to me: his career is currently in a fantastic spot, he's capable of both comedy and pathos (the difference in his Wayne public persona and his private Batman life could make for a fun difference in how he plays it), and he's no stranger to franchise projects. It's a matter of if he'd want to commit to this one.

The other popular choices for an older Bruce, Jon Hamm and Josh Brolin, would fit I'm sure, but I feel like with each Batman, it always seems like the actor is cast when there's a major positive shift in their career currently taking place. Pascal kind of lines up with that occurrence.
