Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

I think it's reasonable to conclude Gunn will cast someone between 3 - 5 years older than Conrenswet. By the time Brave and the Bold comes out, the actor will probably be in their late 30s.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be interesting because, on the one hand, this Bruce will need to look old enough to make a convincing father figure opposite Damian and presumably Damian's predecessors in the Robin mantle (namely Dick). And to Invader's point, there aren't many suitable actors in the 30something age range. But on the other, starting a new DC cinematic universe with a Batman who's past his prime doesn't seem very realistic at all IMO. So, I don't know what the hell they're gonna do. lol

I really don't think it's that contingent on Superman's age at all; but it's hard to gauge since Gunn remains elusive on the subject.

Honestly, if Superman's age wasn't a factor to some degree at the very least, Gunn probably wouldn't have mentioned him while addressing Batman's age. But he did.

Eh, to be fair it seemed he only addressed it because he was specifically asked about it.

He could have easily addressed it without mentioning Superman, though. And didn't he double down on the subject in a separate response later? I don't know. Not trying to split hairs, but I definitely think Superman's age is a factor on some level.

@Invader Joker

On a related note, I've got a challenge for you. Batman shortlist. Top five contenders. Who do you think makes the cut? Try to be as objective as possible (even if a viable candidate conflicts with your personal taste). Take as long as you want.

-Lee Pace. (My personal bias aside because of how much I love the idea, I also find him very likely as he thicks so many boxes of what Gunn would want, complements Corenswet extremely well, and obviously him having worked with Gunn before gives him a huge advantage)
-Oliver Jackson Cohen
-Jake Gyllenhaal (If he's set to go after it he'd be extremely hard to turn down at least for an audition)
-Jensen Ackles
The fifth one I'm the most torn on, but probably a Sam Heughan/Theo James type.

Height will probably play a major factor on the casting of Batman I think. I imagine Gunn want someone that won't look tiny next to Corenswet, so that probably rules out Richard Madden, Aidan Turner, etc. and also, any actors over 6'2 will probably have a huge upper hand.

I keep forgetting about Jackson-Cohen for some reason. At least we might have a solid runner-up in the event that Pace doesn't get it.

Yeah I don't find him exciting at all (I feel he'd just do some version of what Rob did but less interesting) but at least I can imagine him working in the role unlike his peers of the same age range.

I don't see Pace happening. He's already older than Affleck was when he was cast as Batman and will be pushing 50 by the time the movie comes out.

He could very well happen if they're willing to go older; which because of the story and the fact that we already have a young Batman they might. We don't know.

Some fans get real hung up on Clark and Bruce being peers but I don't think that really matters. They can still have their classic dynamic with a bigger age gap, it isn't like Bruce being older means he is gonna be some sort of mentor figure.
It's a bit more mind-boggling to me how much emphasis people put on it considering that the remaining third of that dynamic, Wonder Woman, is quite literally 5000 years old and yet there's never been any problem with either of them being friends with her.

I think it's because our natural inclination is to focus on what's real or substantial ahead of anything else. Hence, we sometimes neglect to consider some of the more atypical/unusual aspects of a character's fictional backstory. Chris B's post is a perfect example, as it doesn't take into account that the character of Steve Rogers is technically much older than Tony Stark. ;)

Eh, mentally Steve Rogers is still about 30. I mean he was frozen for those 70 years.

Ah, good point. I always forget that his old-fashioned values are a reflection of the era in which he was raised, rather than his actual age.

I'm willing to bet the mentality of a 30 year-old from the 1940s would be quite different from one from the 2010s.

Yeah, from Tony's perspective, Steve will always seem like an old man in a young man's body for that reason.
