Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

Sidenote, sort-of, but I would be willing to say that part of what will determine the DCU's success is whether they can create a leading dynamic for Batman and Superman as compelling as Tony's and Cap's was in the MCU.

That shouldn't be too hard given the ridiculous wealth of resources available.

Still on the camp these two would complement each other extremely well.

If neither Pace nor Jackson-Cohen make the final cut, I suppose I'll just throw my support behind a more generic type who at least looks the part. Maybe Heughan or Theo James.

I don’t think Theo James looks the part at all. He has an inherently deeply goofy face that I think is fundamentally unsuited to the role.

James is vaguely (more than vaguely actually) reminiscent of Aparo's Bruce Wayne in that he has a fairly long skull and a good square jaw. Similar nose shape as well. He wouldn't be the tallest Batman, but at 6'0", I wouldn't call him short either.

So, yeah, if we can't get another good Batman in Pace, Cohen or some unknown actor we've all been sleeping on, I'll settle for James. This DCU already has a fantastic Superman and Lois in Corenswet and Brosnahan, respectively. And we Batman fans already have Pattinson in the Reeves-helmed films. So, again, I'll be fine with a less talented actor like James who at least looks the part TO ME.

Batman fans have been feasting for quite a while now. We'll be alright. Tis time for Superman to shine again (and shine he will).

Man I gotta say I see absolutely zero scenario in which Oliver Jackson Cohen and Theo James both screentest because they're looking for a younger actor, and Oliver doesn't win. We really gotta find some better contender out there because it's just impossible for me to picture a world where he actually gets cast. One where he screentests? Absolutely. One where he gets cast? No chance in hell.

I just could not get on board with Theo James. Not only do I not like his look for Bruce, but he's a Cavill-esque plank of wood.

I wouldn't be mad because I've got Battinson and that's all I need, but still. They can do so much better.

Theo James as Batman borders on Patrick Warburton as Superman territory to me. Obviously he's more of a dramatic actor but I feel like it would feel like a parody.

For what they're looking for in this movie his vibe feels especially wrong too. I mean, there is an /extremely/ good reason as to why most of his roles are just mega-*****ebags lol.

And granted, I don't expect Bruce to be a perfect father in this movie, but like, you'd want someone that can sell moments like this which are not on his wheelhouse at all:

Getting not just one, but both of my dream picks for Legacy has made me uncharacteristically chill about Batman's casting. :funny:

Seriously, though, Pace feels a little too good to be true, especially with his age almost certainly being a factor. So, I'm just trying to brace myself for the worst case scenario. James isn't a great actor, but he wasn't too bad on White Lotus and that silly time travel show with Ygritte. And he does look the part to me in a sort of generic way — at least more than some of the other actors you tend to see mentioned around these parts. So, yeah. I mean, if Pace and Cohen are out, who do we have left? Jensen Ackles? Not him.

I mean, if anything I'd argue that David and Rachel getting cast should incentivize us all to dream a little bit more optimistically. I can't see Gunn making /that/ sure that Superman and Lois castings are perfect, and then just dropping the ball when he eventually comes around to Batman. He'll ideally want to pair his perfect Superman with a perfect Batman.

My thinking is that Lee Pace would probably have it in the bag if Gunn does go for the 40s age range since the exact same reasons to cast him are the same ones that applied to David and Rachel.

It's the "Maybe they do wanna go young" possibility that throws a curveball on this because of how miserable pretty much all of the options seem.

Maybe Gunn would want to give Tom Brittney another shot? lol

Yeah, but none of this is based on actual short list. For all we know, Cohen might not even be on it. But, for some reason, I can see James being considered. He just seems like the type of actor they'd go for.

I think Theo James is gonna be in the list in the same way that Jacob Elordi was on a Superman list.

See, why did you have to go and say that now? :argh:

Ackles is way more suited to the role than Theo James and obviously he isn't exactly my first choice for the role. Theo James is great, he's just great at playing comically blatant d-bags.

Also, I don't see how Theo James would be on a shortlist but Oliver Jackson wouldn't? Oliver was a lead on a pretty popular Netflix show and he was also the main antagonist in a pretty popular horror movie (The Invisible Man) so like, the exact same trail of thinking that'd lead them to think of Theo would inevitably lead to Oliver as well.

Once again, we disagree. But honestly, this is getting a little silly now. I'm just saying that I'll settle for a James or a Heughan type in the event that Pace or a similarly suited actor fails to land the part.

I don't disagree with your reasoning, but stranger things have happened.

I mean, I'd never even heard of that Brittney fella before recently, but there he was.

Here's a bunch of names in their 30s that I think we haven't mentioned before. Not to say I think any of these is particularly likely, or that I even like them, but just to entertain ideas lol

James Norton. 38, 6'1
Alexander Ludwig. 31, 6'2
Robbie Amell ( :barf:). 35, 5'11
Karl Glusman. 35, 6'2
Wyatt Russell. 36, 6'2
Jonathan Bailey. 35, 5'11
Michele Morrone. 32, 6'2
Harry Lloyd. 38, 5'11
Lucas Bravo. 35, 6'1
Jack Lowden. 32, 6'0
Max Irons. 37, 6'2.
Leo Suter. 29 (About to hit 30), 6'0

... Man this really might just be the worst generation of actors to cast a Batman in. Holy **** lmao

I’d actually prefer Tom Brittney over Theo James. :funny:

I'll also never understand the Ackles love, either.

And if I’m being honest with myself, as much as I think he’s perfect, I think Lee Pace might be a bit older than they’re looking for. Yes, Bruce should ideally be at least 40-ish if Damian’s already Robin, but by the time this movie comes out, Lee will be pushing 50, and they want him to be the Batman of this universe for at least a decade. I think realistically, candidates who are in their mid-late 30’s are who they’ll be looking at. So I actually think Oliver is probably more likely. Also wouldn’t rule out Bond faves like Aidan Turner or Jack O’ Connell either.

Honestly, that's why I'm trying to get comfortable with the idea that we might not get someone who's ideally suited for the role. :funny:
