Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

Sklenar as Batman; doesn’t look half bad. But I still don’t think he’s the one.

There’s just something boring about the more popular candidates on social media. I see folks acting like Sklenar is to Batman what Corenswet was to Superman, but Corenswet was undeniable. As soon as we heard he was a genuine candidate, that was it. There was no way anyone else would get it if he made it that far.

None of the guys I’ve seen a lot of folks rallying around for Batman have that.

I don’t know. I think we might need a Keaton/Ledger level surprise with this one. Some will say Pattinson was that, but I feel like any backlash he got was less due to not being able to see him as Batman and more about hating the franchise he was known for. I kind of want someone NO ONE is expecting (within reason).

Now you see the appeal of Alan Ritchson
I've been saying this from day one. lol

It's nothing new, though. Fancasts usually prioritize actors' physical appearance over their acting ability. I actually watched the first two episodes of Reacher the other day just to see what all the fuss was about. He's not downright awful, IMO; he just doesn't have the edge or vulnerability that I think the role requires.

While i still do want to see them make Pattinson merge happen because they will be sabotaging themselves doing 2 separate bat franchises i wouldnt mind an interesting pick for DCU Bruce. So definitely not ATJ, Sklenar. Like i wonder could Austin Butler do it for example.

The whole cannibalization talk is so not on my mind when thinking about 2 Batmans lol but its certainly an issue they have. I just think 2 different artists can easily make 2 different Batman films that could both win over audiences. if they come out a year or two apart, go for it. If any character can do it, it's Batman.

They'd never do it, but it's sort of perfect.

Yes!
It obviously would never gonna happen. The scheduling alone would be a huge headache.
But that's the kinda actor they should be going for. Sebastian Stan would've rocked as DCU Batman!

The idea of having two big-screen Batmen coexist in separate films might seem a little chaotic, but there's actually precedent for it with Batfleck (the Snyder Cut, The Flash) and Pattinson (The Batman). So, there's no reason why general audiences should be confused now if they weren't before, especially given how distinct Brave and the "Batman Epic Crime Saga" are/will be from one another.

I just don't know if Sklenar has the chops for this. I do like the fact he looks like a young Alec Baldwin though.

What annoys me a bit about Sklenar and some other names that keep popping up is how so many of these guys who haven’t really proven themselves as much just all seem to think that Batman is the role for them. To be fair, I understand wanting to land a dream role like that. But DC has so many awesome characters and projects in development now. It would be so refreshing for a new talent like Sklenar or a Glenn Powell (to be fair, Powell has a much more impressive resume) to be like, “You know who is an awesome character? Aresenal! Or maybe Captain Atom!” Now, granted, not everyone knows some of these characters. But it would be cool to see actors not always going after the Golden Goose and acting like the only character that matters (or who has an interest arc) is Batman.

Ehh. It’s not like there was much of anyone at the peak of Marvel’s powers saying “You know, I would love to play Adam Warlock.”

I feel like it’s a rare few who would already be aware of anyone beyond the big names.

I know Sklenar is a popular fancast, but I just don't see the vision at all, at all. The Question or Hawkman maybe, but not Batman.

If I was to pick an actor, I'll choose Jake Gyllenhaal.

I’m throwing Daniel Zovatto’s name into the mix. He’s been around the block, putting in good work for the last decade (It Follows, Woman of the Hour, Station 11) but seems to have fallen under more of a character actor label rather than being a certified leading man, but this could be a good fit IMO.

Anyway I broke down and I watched the first two episodes of 1923 and I have to say it’s a great show and Sklenar is very good in it. He’s possibly the most compelling main character, which is quite a compliment given that it’s a show that features two of my all-time favorite actors (and legends) Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Now, some of that is due to the writing and his character just being interesting (a WWI vet dealing with PTSD by hunting leopards and other beasts in Africa) but still, Sklenar does a good job in the show. I can kinda see why he keeps getting fan cast as Batman but for me… maybe it’s just the setting and the presence of Ford but it make me more interested in him potentially playing a young Indiana Jones if they ever decided to reboot that. Or some other pulpy action hero like Doc Savage. Again, this is likely due to watching him in a 1920s adventure setting but I think such a thing could work. Anyway, I’m not necessarily opposed to him as Batman but it would take more convincing.
