But Gates is privy to a lot of intelligence on the ramifications of what would happen if the photos were released. Going with what the Defense Secretary's advice it a whole lot better that the opinion of some anonymous partisan blogger on the Internet. I would be foolish to listen to those folks.

I think Gates said that there would be no U.S. ground troops in Lybia (while whe was Secretary of Defense). So far there aren't and Obama has said as much. Fortunately or unfortunately, Gates will be retiring this summer. Yes, Obama listened to Gates.

No Gates did not want to go into Libya at all. His public appearance and no troops on soil is all not to undermine him. Or a compromise. Just like Colin Powell had a huge problem with Bush and Iraq.

And that is correct Dox, Gates did not want ANYTHING AT ALL to do with this campaign. He said it (no-fly zone) would be an "act of war aimed at Libya".

What I love most about this death is I am pretty sure other countries will tone down their sh** talking a bit. Looking at you Korea, & Iran.

Also given how secretive & efficient this kill was. I am now convinced that Obama is playing chess not checkers. He is obviously a person that plans things out way ahead of time.

I find it amusing somehow that Osama Bin Laden had a fairly drab home office setup. I pictured something with more fire-breathing gargoyles and live cobras, instead of something which sounds too similar to my own home office area.

Gates told congress that there would be no boots on the ground as long as he was Secretary of Defense. He also said that he felt strongly about regime change because it does involve large human and fiscal costs (see the Iraq War and occupation). He said noting about not wanting predator strikes nor any efforts to degrade an opposing military. What the Obama Administration decided to do is consistent with the opinion and the statements made to congress by the Defense Secretary.
