BREAKING NEWS: Republicans may regain control of Senate

I'm freaking furious. And you know there is a high probability that somebody will pay somebody in that hospital to kill Johnson, and make it look like he died of natural causes. It'd be very easy for a nurse, a doctor, or even a janitor to do it.

This is horrible.

Seriously if I thought I'd get away with it, I'd off that governor to prevent him from stealing our democracy and restoring Bush's dictatorship established in 2000.
You're just about ready for that tin-foil hat.

You wouldn't fight for your country? Republicans stole the white house in 2000, and now they want to steal the senate in 2006 without even winning elections!

How long should people tolerate this? One man's criminal is another man's freedom fighter.

*tsk tsk*

Politics. :whatever:

A man just underwent brain surgery. BRAIN SURGERY. And all people seem to care about is 'oh no, the republicans'.

You should be ashamed.

I hope his recovery is expedient, not because I want the republicans hindered, but because he's a human being.

Whats the weather like all the way up there on that high horse?

politics and life are extremely connected. 3,000 Americans and over 50,000 Iraqis died in Iraq because the wrong people had power in politics. That's 53,000 lives. I'm not trying to demean Johnson's situation, but his life or death, or even my own, or even yours is trivial when compared to the broader implications.

Hey, you don't need to tell me that a single life is unimportant when considering the 'big picture'. But, I could also say the same about politics in general, it's all dependant on which 'picture' you're looking at.

Personally, I don't trust any politician as I tend to follow the 'he who seeks power does not deserve it' way of thinking.

Unseasonably warm. :csad:

I thought being condescending would be the best way to get people to see my post, and thus acknowledge my point.

That mentality is naive. You can either accept how things are or dwell on how they ought to be...but that will change nothing, so you may as well just do the former. And even if the Democrat change is a small one, isn't a little bit of change in bad conditions, better than just allowing the conditions to proceed and even worsen?

Then I'm politically naive. I'm fine with that.

Your point is valid, but it also is just a reality we as a society should accept. Last night, when this first broke, there was probably a party in the White House. Meanwhile, Democrats, this man's "ally" probably just started planning a new political strategy. Neither side giving an ounce of thought to him. Its sad, but that is politics...something bad happens and you have to adapt and keep going. The country isn't going to stop over one man.

No one is stealing the senate. All this crap about Republicans regaining the house is just to sell papers.

No I wouldn't. Because something called death would prevent me to enjoy the benefits of whatever it was I was fighting for. And besides, I don't think any politician, political party or ideology is worth dying for.

The only way that a replacement could be take office is if Johnson dies. Karl Mundt had a stroke in '69 and remained in office until '73.

You don't believe in investing in the future? All of my political positions are based on what the world will be like long after I'm dead of old age. Republicans live in the here and now, which gets you nowhere but stuck in a dead end. It's like a kid skipping school. sure it's fun and everything's great today, but then when you become an adult, your like funk I should have invested in my future.

And it is not even a little bit of a stretch for somebody to intentionally kill Johnson just so they can take the senate. It's not even unlikely. Especially when they got the cover story of natural causes. Money talks and it walks and it influences.

I have a good job, and a comfortable one-bedroom apartment. I have no desire to have a family of my own. So much for a dead end.

I could care less about the world after I'm dead because I'll be dead.

well that's very selfish, and it's because of that attitude that the human race is where it is today. That is the attitude that will contribute to the extinction of our species, one of those dead ends I was talking about.

And remember our debate about the possiblity of a utopia? I said it's not an issue of can or can not. It's an issue of will or wont. It's not that utopia isn't possible it's that too many people are too selfish to want it for other people.

There's nothing wrong with being selfish.

And in greek, utopia means in greek "no place" or "place that doesn't exist", from the greek words "οὐ" meaning "no" and "τόπος" meaning "place"

:whatever: Yes, because lets ignore the fact that every post-election recount validates the results of the Election.

You still should know what Utopia means.

The ancient greeks would call you a barbarian, either thought they called everyone that wasen't greek that. Barbarian means "not greek" in greek.

The word "utopia" is a greek word. I gave you the meaning of the word, based on it's origins, not how others define it.

So tell me what is wrong with being selfish?

Utopia is an unrealistic concept, paradise doesn't exist. Plato was an unrealistic ****, but atleast he didn't refuse escape from his friends when he was scentenced to drink hemlock.

Only except the fact. that none of them do.

Regardless of that, the Dems won the majority this year fair and square.
The Republicans need to count their losses and move along.
