British comedy vs American comedy

See, it's weird, because I appreciate both, but when I'm tired and need some laughs, I always go to American comedy. British comedy is the kind you should be awake for.

I agree. I think British comedy is more broad and needs to be watched with a more intent mindframe. Americna comedy on the other hand is more purely entertaining IMO.

I never got shows like Absolutely Fabulous and Mr. Bean. And when I say I didn't get them I mean they were bad.

Of course, I don't get Foxworthy's You know you are a redneck and I never watched a full Seinfeld episode.

So in the end like everything else, it takes different strokes for different folks.

British comedy has bigger teeth.

Who has the better sense of humor? Who makes the best comedy? America or Britain?
personally, i've learned to enjoy quite a bit of both... i don't know that i could choose one over the other... just depends on my mood at the time, i suppose...

i don't like british comedy. i hate mr. bean, and i never liked any of the monty python movies, either. i dont have anything against it, it's just not my bag.

i agree that america puts out alot of crap shows/movies, but i think we almost make up for it with the few good shows and movies we do.

the Young Ones, Spaced, Ali G, Borat, Shaun of the Dead
Futurama, Home Movies, the Simpsons, Mr Show, Broken Lizard films

there is no way of choosing a winner here...im-poss-ible. (for me atleast)

British comedy wins by default simply because it has the classic Mind Your Language.

British comedy is funny while most american comedies aren't. Most sitcoms just do the same over and over. British comedy is smart and repeatative.

Oh and let's not forget Guy Ritchie's ingenious masterpiece - Snatch. That film is infinitely more funny than any American comedy I can think of at the moment.

One thing that I really appreciate about British comedy is that they don't beat concepts to death, unlike American comedies.

I tend to think of British comedy as being a little smarter, which gives a little more gratification when you get the joke. The British don't seem to be as afraid of slapstick as much as the Americans too, which makes me believe the British can be a little more diverse usually.

This is the paint ball shootout between Tim and the guy that stole his girlfriend. Awesome!

British comedy, for me, seems to be hit or miss. I either love it, or am asleep 5 minutes into it. I love Bean, but hate The Thin Blue Line. Amercian comedy is different, if I don't think a show is really all that funny I keep watching it but it doesn't lull me to sleep, its not boring, just really not that funny. Friends is a good example of that. I guess when British comedy is bad its fall asleep bad. When American comedy is bad, its "What the **** are these people laughing at?" bad. Thats for me anyway. I think in America, British comedy is a sort of acquired taste for some people, you gotta give it a chance. My friend told me about Mr Bean years back and I was like "What the hell? His finger is in his pants and out his fly while greeting the Queen? I gotta see that." I don't know if its the same the other way around. Can any British people answer that?

I've always prefered British Comedy.

Call me a patriotic Comedy lover if you will. There is alot of British CRAP in terms of comedy but not on the same scale as America.

England has made some classic shows in the past.

Some shows to possible find on youtube:

MonkeyDust, Spaced, Brassed Eye, Today's the day, Little Britain, The Fast Show, I'm Alan Patridge, Only fools and horses, Red Dwarf, Green Wing, The Young Ones, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Garth Maringey's Dark Place, The Mighty Boosh, Mr. Bean,

Occasionally in Family Guy, say Stewie is talking and talking, he's obviously cracking jokes, but they're going over my head. I figure I have to be American to get the reference. That's not really the same thing though.

I think the difference between Americans and the British, no offense... your culture shows that in many things you need instant gratification.

No offense but...go **** yourself. I bet thats your instant gratification.

Where do you think Belfast is?

Let's not get into an argument. Simple misunderstanding.

A lot of the dry british humor is better when you are...hmm..altered?
Then again a lot of the stupid american comedy is better when you are that way as well...
