British comedy vs American comedy

Oh and let's not forget Guy Ritchie's ingenious masterpiece - Snatch. That film is infinitely more funny than any American comedy I can think of at the moment
Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels are not a good example of british humor. They are both just comedies, the comedic parts mainly being farce. There is plenty of farce in america.

eer I mean in american comedies...ya thats what i meant ;)

Lock Stock has some humor, but not much whereas from my understanding, Snatch has a lot of elements of typical British humor. It's not readily apparent, but then again that's what British humor is.

Lock Stock and Snatch are a different kind of British humor. Something I've come to call "very Lock Stock humor". It's more kind of... laddish humor. Still funny though.

i like brittish comedy more, and i'm not jsut saying that cuase i live there.

i'm the sort of guy that has paramount comedy on the TV all day. most of the time it's all american stuff, i've sat through endless crap only to discover i like Two and a half men and Becker...the other's just arent that funny. for instance, i tried to watch something called Life on a stick, i laughed a few times, but it was more a sort of "ha! he said penis and he's 5" sort of laugh, the type where you know it's not really that funny but at that time it's one of the few funny things you've seen so you have to laugh. then again if i watched Spaced some of the jokes might take a while to get set up(like "is jabba the princess?", but most of that scene was funny anyhow)but it's damn funny when it comes.

now don't get me wrong, american comedy films were, at one point, were some of the funniest films ever made(naked gun, airplane, hot shots, ace ventura, ferris bueller, etc), but then something horrible happened around 2000 when Scary Movie was made, then your comedy films started to suck slightly, hell scary movie was the biggest pile of crap i'd ever seen. it just wasn't funny. it was like "oh...the killer's getting stoned....and???" it wasn't funny. then you look at british comedy films, like the monty python films, SotD, and those ones that noones even heard of like Spivs, they're all funny and you know why? it's cause they don't sit there shouting at you "YOU WILL FIND THIS FUNNY OR THERE WILL BE PAIN WHEN WE MAKE THE SEQUAL!!!" in a nazi type way, thats what scary movie done, it tried to hard.

if i was to give you american's one bit of advice....it would be "never allow those Wayans people ever make another film" seriously....their films suck beyond suckage. the trailer for little man made me want to die, trailers show some of the best bits right? if thats some of the best bits i'd hate to see the worst bits. you american's have some good people on your side...who ever wrote Meet the Parents should be high fived, that is a comedy.

anyhoo...back to the origonal point of this post....British comedy>american comedy. even our stand ups are funnier, noble, dee, evans, they could all take on even your amazing stand ups that are kings of comedy

Im pretty sure they both have more than a few hits out on them after that movie so hopefully the job will get done and we will never see them again :D
Of course I havent seen it and dont plan on it. The whole scary movie movement is very sad indeed, im pretty sure the whole theme is just a lame attempt to allow underage kids to view violence and nudity with parents left unaware.

Friends wouldn't have been so bad if the characters weren't so extreme, if they didn't over act and over react to EVERYTHING, and if they didn't beat a joke to death over and over again.

No no, I meant that it was not "readily apparent" as "British humor".

British comedy, definatley. We have some fantastic sitcoms like Spaced, Father Ted and Monty Python that just can't be beaten.

ah, I see.
I agree, the lines between british and american humor has become skewed. As is evident with "The Office" becoming so popular here.
Thats what I love most about america though, melting pot. Different cultures intermingling an stealing the best from each other to create utopia before we bomb everyone. Thats plan!! ;)

BTW I recently purchased some Monty Python beer in Ashland as a novelty.
But then my little brother visited, atleast he left me the bottles...

I love Mr. Bean. I'm watching the swimming pool episode on youtube right now...

Oh and the mighty boosh is one of the funniest programmes i've ever seen.

Extras is good as well. Ricky Gervais is brill in it. Althoughm, it isn't as good as the office, it still has it's moments. The les dennis ep is grrreat!

That mr. bean episode, is rather good. Watched The Mighty Boosh last night, the one with the yeti. Awesome show. I don't find Ricky Gervais that funny, sometimes.

Little Britain was hilarious for me. I couldn't stand the 3rd season, though. I used to like My Family on BBC1 actualy...until that Nick left. Now he's doing those BT commercials...

I've gotta say I'm more of a fan of American comedy though. Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm, That 70's Show, Fresh Prince, Jackass etc...

Yet Britain, does have a few classics. Only Fools and Horses:up:

Little Britain really shouldn't have went past two seasons. It became really overhyped really quickly by the media and everybody. They have some good sketches, but they're not that good, especially when they're doing the same sketches again and again. The guys that do the show milk it and milk it and milk it. It's come to the point where I can't stand the two guys that do it.

If they bring back the 'Yesssss' flute man, I'll be happy.

Gawd....good times.

Yup, he was my favourite in the first season.

'i'm hard yet soft, i'm coloured yet clear, i am fruity and sweet. I'm jelly. What am I?'

'...jelly?'

'i shall yet ye muse upon it later!'

I tried watching British comedy on the WEDU channel.........I think I laughed more at how horrible it was :(

Seinfeld, Family Guy, Conan O'Brien... I have to go with American comedy.

Not to say British comedy sucks, Ali G/Borat is freaking HILARIOUS

I'm severely disappointed that nobody has mentioned Blackadder. That trumps any other comedy show.
